Thanks to one of our newer Gruntzerz, I now am able to accept payment for the Gruntz Extraz DVD-ROM via PayPal! So the only delay in receiving the DVD containing the most current existing Gruntz Custom Levelz (and a lot more!) is in the snail mail (aka United States Postal Service) from me to you.
The breakdown of the cost:
DVD-ROM | $3.50 | blank DVD-ROM purchased in lots of 50 (LightScribe enabled costs much more $3.00+) | slim-line case | $.80 | generic, purchased in lots of 25 | mailer | $.95 | generic, purchased in lots of 10 | Ed Kivi (GooRoo) | $14.75 | Time to update Extraz DVD and LightScribe labeling ... and to defray the rising costs of discs and drives. | Total | $3.95 to $6.45 (LightScribe) | without postage |
Postage (you have to pay for it ) will vary, depending upon the destination.
Using PayPal will add about $.59 to the total cost (what I am charged) ... but just make your payment to the nearest dollar.
Contents:
- GruntzDemo (freely distributable 'trimmed-down' version of Gruntz)
- Gruntz Custom Levelz
- Gruntz Rez file (most current version, must be re-named to "GRUNTZ.REZ")
- Gruntz Level Editor (ready to go, and also ZIPped)
- Gruntz Level Editor manual in HTML
- Gruntz moviez
- Gruntz CL Walkthroughz (where they exist)
- Gruntz CL skeleton Walkthrough to speed creating your own
- Each Designer has a folder all their own
- Within each Designer's folder are folderz for each CL
- Promotez easy creation of walkthroughz for your new puzzlez
- GooRoo's Gruntz Forum emoticons
- Grunt imagez (SuicideBomber through Wingz) ... HTML walkthroughz
- Tile imagez for all eight graphicz setz (useful for HTML walkthroughz)
- imagez for use in Gruntz CL walkthroughz not listed above
The folderz are arranged in such a manner that the entire contentz of the Gruntz folder on the Gruntz Extraz CD-ROM may be copied into your Gruntz folder ... which would replace all of the Custom Levelz you have that are also on the CD-ROM ... not good, if you have modified some of them for your own play. In that case, you would have to copy those componentz you want 'by hand' ... one at a time. Everything in the "Gruntz" folder on the CD-ROM goez into the Gruntz folder on your hard drive to generate the same directory 'tree' structure. Anyway, copying the folders:
- editor (Tile imagez, etc.)
- emoticons (aka 'smiliez', such as the onez we use in postz)
- hintz (aka "Walkthroughz")
- images (the small Gruntz with their Toolz, etc.)
to your hard drive will allow you to create HTML walkthroughz of your own that will work when uploaded to my web host. All referencez are relative to the Index.html component, the way I am creating walkthroughz now. Doing it that way, it will not matter where your walkthrough is stored (what web host I am using) it will be viewed properly. Also, someone else's 'standardized' HTML walkthrough will be properly viewed on your own computer, without going on-line.
Edit: I will create a thread that will have postingz providing linkz to any updated componentz of the Gruntz Extraz CD-ROM, making it possible to keep up-to-date on everything available. The date of the posting, compared to the date on your Gruntz Extraz CD-ROM will tell you if you need to acquire the update(z). If you want to do thingz "on the cheap", all anyone needz to do is visit the Gruntz Level Editor Board and capture (in source) all of the several hundred HTML elementz and imagez ... and re-construct the same directory 'tree structure' I have set up on the web. You could probably capture everything in about a hundred and fifty hourz.

I have now received the cd with all the custom levelz, walkthro'z etc.... after a minor hiccup everything is working fine and the cd is really easy to access and follow, I have not yet looked at the level editor yet as I am not yet confident enough to attempt my own levelz, still gotta lot to learn.
Paying via paypal is really easy to do.

I think I'll buy a copy of this CD on the future. Is it required to pay via PayPal? I do not have an account there, but I could create one. Perhaps on Monday August 20 th I'll take a look at it and see if I will, or not order the Gruntz Extraz CD-ROM. P.S. GooRoo, do you know the postage cost for Brazil?

I think I'll buy a copy of this CD on the future. Is it required to pay via PayPal? I do not have an account there, but I could create one. PayPal is simply a fast, convenient way to transfer fundz. (I receive an e-mail notification that a payment has been tendered, and only have to accept it by clicking on the link and checking"accept". So I may immediately send out the CD-ROM package.) A check or money order (in U.S. fundz) must go through "snail mail", which can take several dayz ... then I have to cash it (and possibly wait for the bank to confirm the check). Don't be in too much of a hurry to buy ... I am constantly working on the Gruntz Level Editor Manual. No, I have no idea what postage to Brazil would be, and probably would need to know a more specific location to even get a quote from the U.S. Post Office. Since there are differing postal costz for different zonez within the USA, I am sure there are different ratez for different areaz of many non-USA destinationz.

Just about every Gruntz Extraz CD-ROM will be different, because each time I send one out, it has the most current information on it. So the label (link to the image is above) has a hand-printed creation date on it just below the map (under the center hole) and above the number 10126. So if you purchase one of the DVDz, all you need to do to "catch up" is to download the Gruntz Custom Levelz released after the date on your label ... should the unthinkable happen, and your hard drive is lost ... or you change computerz.

I'm waiting for the level editor manual to be included. I want to try learning this. The Gruntz Level Editor Manual is already included ... it is just not in 'final' form (and may never truly reach that state!) as I am making correctionz to the text of some componentz and correcting the linkz for the last few (less than ten) that are wrong. I will have to come up with some way of easily letting everyone know when a component has been changed, so those with the Gruntz Extraz CD-ROM may update their hard drive copy. Since there will alwayz be a thread on this Forum that is the Index to the GLEM, I suppose the easiest solution would be to add a date to the index entry, when I change a component and/or link. So that an entry might look like: - Appendix B
- Toolz ... September 23, 2007

cool cool cool! I'll take it if it makes creating custom levelz easier- I've been reading some thread on creating custom levelz and it lookz like you have to be a computer programming Bill Gates Brother genius!!! What with all the strange terminology of "beta" testing... What? So if you please - tell me how and when to order with Paypal... and... er... what the shipping fee will be all the way to South Africa...

I now have the capability to use LightScribe to create an adhesive-free picture on the CD-ROMz that I copy (or create, in the case of the Gruntz Extraz) ... no more stick-on labelz (that could come off with wear). So the next time someone sendz me a damaged Gruntz CD-ROM, I will be sending back the original CD along with the replacement copy ... with LightScribe labelling. And one day I will manage to determine whether Gruntz is "Abandonware", so I could legally offer it on a non-profit basis ... charging only the cost of materialz and postage for the complete game. Some day!

I guess it had to happen some time ... the Gruntz Extraz CD-ROM is now a Gruntz Extraz DVD! I just compiled an updated version, and it is far more than 1 Gigabyte of stuff ... far more than will fit on a CD.
Gaby, I am creating a special version just for you that includez the web site information ... not included on the 'normal' Gruntz Extraz. I hope to (re-)find your snail mail address, so I can send it out tomorrow (today is a postal (and otherz) holiday in the United States).

The Gruntz Extraz DVD is current as-of this evening (March 20, 2012) just minutez before the vernal equinox (10:14PM Pacific Daylight Savings Time)! I will try to keep the thumb drive source current, so it won't take as long to create one ... next time.

In preparing an up-to-date Gruntz Extraz DVD (an image of the to-be-created platter), I discovered an old CL (2009) that has never been released. It was named simply 'Test', so I thought it was one of mine ... but it isn't ... it was done by BaNZay (and never credited to him). I will play-test it tomorrow, and if it is without any fatal error, try to give it a better name than 'Test', create an announcement for it, and distribute it to the Gruntz Fanz.

Is the Extras CD still available to purchase? And if so, how? I create a Gruntz Extraz DVD(!) as a back-up, and update it is best I can when someone requests one. The main cost is for postage, which is usually under $3.00 (US) for USA destinations. Overseas destinations take longer, as I have to check with the local post office for the required postage to destination X. Then relay that information to the person desiring it, with the total price. I am able to receive funds via PayPal ... which speeds up the transaction, and checks made out in USA currency are acceptable.
My computer that was equipped with a LIghtScribe drive died, so any discs now will have hand printed/lettered identification. Sorry.

If I use a LightScribe DVD to provide the Gruntz Extraz, the disc will be labelled in monochrome with the date of the disc. Using the cheaper non-LightScribe DVD will have hand printed information.
I went in search of LightScribe discs, and it seems that current providers have acquired stock on-the-cheap from HP due to low sales, and are now offering them for five or six times the Hewlett-Packard price in years past. Gouging! I am not willing to pay $3+ per disc for LightScribe CDs and DVDs (probably even more expensive per disc!). Also, an individual has acquired the rights to LightScribe software, and is charging high prices for the previously free product. The Template labeller I had on my previous (defunct) computer that was free now costs something like $29, and the template library is a separate purchase item ... in two versions: the original free ones; additional templates, perhaps created by the seller.
Oh, to have had the finances to purchase Hewlett-Packard's inventory of LightScribe software and supplies! I assure you that I would have continued the supply pricing (adjusted for inflation, of course) and not sought to gouge people who enjoyed the capability to more professionally label their own creations. And the software would have remained free, as well. Because once the supply runs out, the software would have no value anyway. The extra $10 I paid for a LightScribe enabled external CD/DVD writer over one without that capability is small potatoes ... at least the drive remains useful for quicker copying. But had I known of the price gouging on supplies, I might have removed even the capability of labelled discs from my offering.

Many of the posts in this thread have been updated, reflecting the world's opinion that Gruntz is abandonware and may be offered to the public. I have seen prices as high as $59.95 for just the Gruntz CD-ROM or discless (downloadable) game ... none of the additions available from this Forum. So I am offering the package for a flat fee, not even making any consideration for possibly high postage charges for non-United States purchasers.
