OK, I'm on my soap box here
I am not a great game player but there is one othe game that I have enjoyed as much as I have enjoyed Gruntz. Don't get me wrong - its not a stayer like Grunz - there won't be lots of custom levels but it is a challenging and thought provoking game which makes you think.
The premise is that you are washed up on an island after a storm. You find a puzzle in the sand. You have to work out how to play this puzzle. Both what the game is and the rules behnd it. To prove your mastery of this you have to beat the computer 8 times as the puzzle gets progressively more complicated. Once you beat the puzzle more areas in the game open up.
You find that you have to solve a small puzzle which then leads to a more challenging game where you again have to show your mastery over the computer. You have to try and work out what the whole premise of the game is at the same time.
You have your own nominated companion who gives you hints and advice when he thinks you need it.
Peter, who designed the game (its his second) is a mathematician and used to get extremely exasperated with me because I wanted to see patterns in the games all the time where he was seeing maths.
Anyway - its a great game - played by some members of this board already.
Pop over to his website www.mulawa.net - have a look at the game - there is a downloadable demo - and the gallery and at the same time have a browse at other parts of his site.
There are reviews of the game there as well (I have to admit he did get one bad review and I am not going to comment on that one at all) His has his own forum there for players only and if you ever post there I will wave to you from my part of the beach
