Y'know I find it amazing that there's still a community of Gruntz level builders out there. You guys are totally awesome!
For those of you who don't recognize my name - I was the lead designer & programmer on Gruntz and, to this day, it still remains as my all-time favorite project.
So I joined a new company and we're working on something really cool! It's a 3D game-building application that, in itself, is also a game. I guess you could sort of call it "The Game of Making Games & Cool Spaces".
We're just starting our Alpha phase and we still have a TON of work to do before we release, but we're beginning to share it with folks and I'd love to get everyone on this forum involved who wants to be.
Here's the website:
www.jumala.com Apparently the web site no longer has the same purpose ... or was hacked! Jesus related, with text that seems to be in Finnish (Suomalainen).
If you'd like to be a part of our Alpha or Beta test team, be sure to sign up, follow us on twitter, and send me an e-mail at kevin (at) ddrseattle (dot) com, and I'll make sure you guys get on the list!
Thanks!
Kevin.

I am soooo glad you posted here, Kevin! Of course, my main reason is to be able to pick your brain about Gruntz! We have seven Secret Levelz all ready to go, but have been unable to figure out the naming scheme required in updating the REZ file, so that when the Secret requirement(z) get met, the game actually bringz up the associated Secret Level! It is so frustrating, when it takez about 15 minutez for each naming attempt, then load Gruntz, play the Standard Level from the SAVE point (just before cheating), enter the cheat code(z) and step on the SecretLevelTrigger. When the grunt just disappearz down a Red Wormhole , and doesn't reappear ... all I can do I cry (or curse , depending on how many timez I tried that day).

Hey GooRoo. Nice to see you again. Hmm. I think in order to answer your question, I'm going to have to try to dig up the old source code for the game and wade through it. *hopefully* it was written in a way where new secret levels could just be dropped in, and that the executable itself wouldn't need to be patched - but I can't promise we were that smart at the time. Could you remind me what the level names currently are, including the first secret level?

Could you remind me what the level names currently are, including the first secret level? In GRUNTZ.REZ package there are folders: AREA1, AREA2 ... AREA8. In AREA1/WORLDZ/ are LEVEL1.WWD ... LEVEL4.WWD and it passes though the next area folders like this: in AREA2/WORLDZ/ are from LEVEL5.WWD to LEVEL8.WWD; in AREA3/WORLDZ/ are from LEVEL9.WWD to LEVEL12.WWD ... and so on to LEVEL32.WWD in AREA8/WORLDZ/ folder. Additionally in AREA1/WORLDZ/ are TRAINING1.WWD to TRAINING4.WWD and, most importantly: LEVEL101.WWD which is ... our secret level. Hope that's what you meant. Hmm. I think in order to answer your question, I'm going to have to try to dig up the old source code for the game and wade through it. Wait ... you're saying that you have a source code of Gruntz? That's ... that's amazing! It could be used as a base for creating another versions of this awesome game! I can't imagine the amount of opportunities it gives us ... Hmmm, it's not that easy, is it? Otherwise you'd have already given the source code to us Is it illegal somehow? I mean, after all of those years after Gruntz release?

So, have the additional secret levelz been put in yet? No, they haven't. There has been no response ... and I really did not expect one to come rapidly. Kevin has very much of a life beyond Gruntz, and I (for one) am just happy that he rememberz us enough to drop in a couple timez a year! We have made direct e-mail contact with him, though, and that may bring some answerz that will move us forward toward Gruntz Version 1.12 (with seven more Secret Levelz).

Scanning through the Board, I found this thread started by Kevin Lambert, of Monolith Productions, Inc. and discovered the link (site) seems to have been hacked. Pity!

"Jumala" seems to translate to "God" in Finnish, so content of the site would make sense. The domain was probably sold and reused by someone else.

I am Finnish (by name, 25% by genes) but only know a (very!) few words, and doubt my spelling of them would be correct. But I recognized the text as Finnish because of the preponderance of double 'a' words.
