Merry Christmas to all my fellow Gruntzerz all over the world. May the Lord and Savior for whom we this day find a home in your heart, and rule and reign in your life, and bring you peace and comfort now and in the years to come. Amen.

An excellent prayer thought for everyone (not just Gruntzerz) all over the world! It is just too bad that some time in the distant past someone decided to make the celebration in proximity to the winter solstice, instead of in the season when he was actually born. And too many times, the creche is depicted with three Magi ... who did not come into the presence of the babe, but to a toddler of about two years old. (That's why Herod had given the order to slay all of the male Hebrew children two years old and younger ... it took the Magi two years to find him. And Joseph and Mary spirited him away to Egypt to protect him, avoiding the fate of his contemporaries, fulfilling the prophecy of "Rachel weeping for her children, because they were not".)

A little late for Christmas 2011, but the sentiment is worth passing on ... and I can modify it for use in December, 2012: A Simple Wish

The celebration of Christ's birth is off by about three months, and the world seems to be correcting the mistake by taking CHRIST out of Christmas. It is unlikely that a celebration of the birth of the Messiah will ever be properly timed (and acknowledged for what it means), so December 25 th will remain a time for me to say: Merry Christmas, every one!

Frohe Weihnachten! My German language class is 57 years old, and it is too much effort to find the umlaut characters, but I seem to remember it as more like "froeliche weihnacten" (und ein glucklies neues jahr) ... or, in English, "Merry Christmas and a happy new year"!

You can say it both ways, but there is a subtle difference. Explaining this in English is a real challenge, but hey, there's the Internet:
Don't worry, I'll translate:
Thus, when you are at a party, you can be fröhlich if the party is good. When a war ends, people usually are froh about that.

How is your New Year, ah? I hope it's good and you celebrated it well. And are you ready for february 6 holidays, right? Just to be sure you are ready. It's old and "little" holiday but it must be met with respect.
