I upgraded to Windows 7 on this computer not too long ago, and when I installed Gruntz today, it ran fine except the sound effectz and voicez are completely gone. The game itself and music are perfect. Does anyone here have Windows 7 and ever ran into this problem before? I think it might be related to DirectX 11, since Gruntz ran fine on Windows XP with DirectX 9.0c (which has support for older versionz, and I believe Gruntz required DirectX 6.0 when it came out) I tried installing DirectX 6.0 that came on the CD, but it still didn't change anything.

Try right-clicking Gruntz.exe, and running it in compatibility mode for Windows XP Sp3.
Hope to see you soon on G.R. !

Already tried compatibility with every single previous version of windows, none of them changed anything.

Does the directory folder you installed it to have the .wav files there? If they are corrupt/missing I can zip mine and host them on a site for you.

I'm pretty sure Gruntz.VRZ (that's the sound file, isn't it?) isn't corrupted or anything, it's around 86 MB in size which is the usual size I believe.
I tried Gruntz.exe from an old, backup Gruntz folder and I also tried the freshly installed one, neither of them have the sounds.

I am sure you have already tried the obvious solution of going into OPTIONS and setting sound values there. So the question I have is "do any other programz which should have soundz play on your new computer?". There is a peculiarly hidden option via the control panel which has a mute option. That is why I ask about other programz.

Everything else is perfectly fine. But I haven't tried any other gamez as old as Gruntz to confirm whether it's a DirectX problem or not.
One thing I just thought of... you use Windows Vista, don't you, GooRoo? And I think Vista has DirectX 10 which is also incompatible with older versionz. So yeah... now I really don't know what could be causing this. I might just install XP on this computer if I can't figure this out by tomorrow.

I can make available the Gruntz.VRZ for individual download, if you think that may help. And, yes, I am using Vista, and have no problemz with Gruntz soundz.

I don't think it'd make any difference. I tried my old backup Gruntz.exe and also a fresh install and neither one had the soundz, so I doubt it's a problem with the .VRZ. I'm just going to install XP later today and see if it works fine there.

I'm running Gruntz perfectly fine on two Windows 7 computers (with DirectX 11), so it shouldn't be that...

Yeah I just realized this is somehow related to my PC/sound card and not to the application itself. I tried playing some soundz that I had extracted from the .REZ a long time ago, and none of them worked either... I'm sure I'll be able to play fine on my laptop though, gonna give that a try.

Hi guys, I saw there was already a thread for "Gruntz on Windows 7" and thought I'd just post my problem in here rather than start a whole new thread. I'm running the 64-bit version of Windows 7 and have tried to install Gruntz using this method posted by Alexandgruntz. I can run the game but I cannot, however, save. I created the .sav file but I'm not sure if I did it the correct way. Can someone describe to me how to make a .sav file? Thanks, Luigi

Welcome to the forumz! Does the game display an error message when you try to save? Does it crash? I'm not sure how to create a completely empty file, but as far as I know Gruntz will create the other .SAV filez as you use the slotz.

When I try to save, I get an error that says, "ERROR - Cannot save game".

Have you got file extensionz visible? If not it won't create the file correctly (it'll be named Gruntz.sav.txt

I didn't before but I'm not sure if that was the problem. Anyway, I created a new .sav file using Wordpad and when I go into the "Gruntz" folder and look at the file type for it, it says it's a .sav file.
Do I need to have the .sav file in a specific folder?
