For quite a while only two admins (ZU and myself) are active, and it occurs to me that information about responsibility for moderating different areas of this Forum is now something that only the two of us are shouldering.
So I am going to be removing the information about Moderators from ALL of the Boards. It will just be understood that GooRoo and ZU are the ones responsible for "keeping it clean'".
A minor side effect will be that the left-hand column may be using a little less vertical space.
Also, I am considering expanding the width of the user-accessible area (posting space) beyond the current number of pixels. The 'default' size of this Forum's display is 1024 pixels wide, so there is room to grow. And modern monitors are capable of much more than our default. Right now, I am using only about 2/3rds of the available screen width, and have upon occasion stretched out this Forum's display to "full screen", so know that the defaulted dimensions are only suggestions, anyway.
Before I make such a change, I will test out my theory about how things work by sizing my window downward in case doing so has an adverse effect on our viewing pleasure.
I invite comments from you Gruntzerz about your normal screen size when you visit, in case you are using a narrower browser window than 1024 pixels, and already have poor displays.

I have an appointment and must leave for a short time. I started at the top and have worked my way down through Standard Levelz/High on Sweetz. It is a two step process to select the edit gadget for a Category/Board, then select 'Moderators' in order to remove names from the list.

I think that on basically all platforms (including mobile) 1920x1080 is already becoming a standard and the hosting has a lower resolution version for older smartphone users anyway, so there is no need to worry about lowering the resolution. Percentages will only go up as time passes.
Other than that, I find it interesting how many moderators and staff members in general are (or were) on this forum. I saw Gamer's post (from 2008 or so) that he couldn't play the game due to compatibility problems. But now that we have found various workarounds for our issues, maybe some would return, at least to leave one message. I don't know what happened to all others though - they just couldn't have disappeared without a word. Do you have contact with some of the "titled" users, GooRoo?

In our heyday, we had users that were very active in the Forum, that lived all over the world. That provided us with coverage essentially 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Moderators from Australia/New Zealand, all 4 (5?, 6?) time zones of the United States, across the pond (England), mainland Europe (Germany, Poland, etc.). At that time, widespread availability of cell phones and cost-free calling over much of the world, was not available, so only through posts in the Forum, and what was revealed of personalities via the Gruntz puzzlez they designed, and assistance vie suggestions, etc. was the only means I had for selecting 'staff'. Even though "life happens", everyone ever granted 'staff' positions still has that authorization ... and would be able to 'moderate' in this Forum. And for those who were disenfranchized by changes in computer technology, we can only hope that they visit to see what still goes on, and can discover what we have done to keep the game going. And return to the game ... and us!

I'm pretty sure that after over 10 years of inactivity (and personal life changes, perhaps) they would have forgotten about the existence of this forum. Even if someone remembered the game, the idea that this forum could still be running wouldn't cross their mind. I see that almost everyone quit in the 2006-2010 period and no Global Moderator (except FriedGruntzaholic) returned ever since.
It's a bummer that we don't have any other way to contact them. I quickly checked emails assigned to staff accounts and some of them are on hostings that I never heard of, so we can assume that none of them is used anymore.

I quickly checked emails assigned to staff accounts and some of them are on hostings that I never heard of, so we can assume that none of them is used anymore. The first such loss was Guenter ... email no longer valid. His map design and puzzles were an inspiration to many of our early puzzle designers. For some of the younger ones (age, not length of participation) no doubt found themselves involved with life. The need to generate an income to feed a new family, etc. And we older ones (age, not length of participation) may simply have met their Maker. And changes in hardware/software are likely to be the cause for others to stray away, not knowing that some brilliant minds were hard at work to provide work-arounds to the problems change introduced.
On a slightly more positive note: when I distributed XKE via email to the 72 Gruntz Fanz in my address book, this time I did not receive a single "unable to deliver" response. So that distribution may generate some of the more curious ones to check back in with us.
