Hello all. One of the abilitys of Gruntz was to play online, however that doesnt seem to work quite right due to lag. Lag is an online term to tell when someone is getting and sending information. often in IRC when someone is lagging they dont get anything at all even when people are talking, then recieve it all at once and the circle continues. I think Gruntz has TOO much data being sent, thus probably only workz when all online opponets have faster than 56K modems, like DSL and Cable. However level size might have something to do with it. also the Host should have the better computer, since all data is sent to it then sent back to all the other computers in play.

Update to online play: Fried and I have played over our LAN now that I have a good computer (more or less)
Comp specs: 2, 6 gig hardrives. 256 megs of RAM. 466 Mhz Intel celeron CPU. 10/100 LAN card, 8 meg onboard video card, NVIDIA GEForce 4 MX 420 PCI Graphics card (main video card)
2nd comp: 1 6 gig. 128 meg RAM. 400 Mhz Intel celeron CPU. 10/100 LAN card. 8 meg onboard video card (main).
Gameplay was good, cept we got an out of sync error in every game that was played (didnt cause any problems). If it can be played over the internet both computers would have to be broadband speed.

Have you figured out a way to host a game, so that others can join you from the Internet? I suppose it would require some hardware, and perhaps telephone line upgrades/additions to allow outsiders into the game.

yes, you need at least a modem in which case you are able to see this thread then you have a modem but when people play with you over the internet instead of LAN lag is very very bad. A LAN is about as fast as DSL, but can only work with the computers that are connected to it through a hub, in our case an 8 port hub (able to connect 8 diffrent computers to the same network so they are able to share files, folders and play multiplayer games at broadband speed) To host or join a game you have to go to the multiplayer menu, click host and you should always choose TCP/IP. When joining a game use the same protocol as the person hosting (I only have experiance with TCP/IP). When using TCP/IP and it asks you for the hosts IP address leave that blank and let it search. Thats about all I can tell you.

I have a strong PC as well, and I haven't played Gruntz for ages. This may help me getting back into it. PS, specs are 2.8GHz Pentium 4, 160GB hard drive and 512MB of RAM, plus a DSL connection. I've played over our 100Mb/s LAN with my brother, but never across the Internet.

Maybe we should try to play! Is Hamachi or some other program necessary? Because I have Hamachi and maybe with it we could easily play!

Please can any1 host a multiplayer without too much lag? I've LANed countless times without problems, but never over the internet. My computer should be able to handle it though... 1 GB RAM, Intel CPU 2160 @ 1.80GHz etc... And gruntz isn't such a big game.

As far as we know, no one has ever successfully played Bruntz (Battlez) over the Internet. The connection and data transfer time is just too slow. FriedGruntzaholic and his son seem to have had the most success, using a direct-connect (null modem?) at home with two computerz. It seemz that the person initiating an attack wins every time ... the defender just doesn't receive the information about the attack in time to defend ... turned into Goo before even a Sword Grunt can get in a single stab. I have a 2.53GB mciroproccessor, and doubt that even that with a 3.0MB DSL Internet connection would make for a decent Battle.

We should wait for ADSL2+ to come, or maybe even KAREN.

I played with my father in our (Wireless) LAN and we were very sucessful. We both have strong computers (and me, the host, even stronger), and it worked perfectly, one got a toy, the other saw it miliseconds later...

A SOLUTION, PEOPLE! LET'S PLAY ONLINE!Hamachi. Hamachi. Hamachi. Hamachi is the solution to all of your problems. It is the best program a human being has made. It allows people to connect to each other's servers at any game. It prevents problems when people are using routers. LET'S PLAY ONLINE, PEOPLE!Hamachi Website: www.hamachi.ccDownload Hamachi. It is so easy to use. You and the person (people) you're playing with at your (or some of their) server, need to be online in Hamachi and in the same Network. I have made a Network for all you Gruntzers who want to try to make a Battle. Network Name: gruntzteo Network Password: gruntz Please, let's try, for the sake of Gruntz, to play it and revive the Battlez aspect of the game. P.S. Older games like Gruntz and Demonstar will not work online without using Hamachi!

This is what the 'LogMeIn Software' says. That means if you are in one of those countries, I don't know if it will work or not. And another thing, if we just want to Battle someone, and PM each other and say, "Lets play at 2:00 p.m." and we are in different time zones, how are we going to handle that? I have also downloaded Hamachi just now. Last thing, how do we actually do it? I mean Battle? Do I just take the person's IP address I want to battle with, or somethig else? P.S. This will be awesome if it works!

In an attempt to coordinate an on-line Battlez session, you should use Greenwich Mean Time. Your profile should tell you what the adjustment to GMT is for your area. In the United States of America, the process is slightly more complicated, due to "Daylight Savings Time", which makez another one hour adjustment.

Guys, we have a problem. You see, I had to format my computer. I had bought Gruntz through RealArcade. And now - RealArcade gets all changed completely!!! It is no longer a program, thus I cannot start my Gruntz now! I saw a thread in the RealArcade where I could redownload my bought games, but I cannot seem to get the hang of it! :-(
