This is the main element (the controlling element!) of your walk-through. It is REQUIRED.
Click this link if you have installed the GruntzExtraz DVD contents to your hard drive to view the Index.html component ... "View Source" to copy it for yourself.
Click this link if you have merely created a folder for your CL within a folder of your 'handle' on your hard drive to view the Index.html component ... "View Source" to copy it for yourself. (Some imagez may not display.)
All of the linkz within the Index.html component work to open the other componentz of the walk-through document. (You just use "View Source" and "SAVE As..." for each component as you follow the linkz.)
The code within these threadz has been deleted, since it cannot easily be maintained.
Each component has its own thread, so you may use them for individual componentz, if you prefer that method.

In all the code examplez, the line <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> is mentioned. Thiz line is not needed in standard HTML, but it inserted by some web page creatorz, such as Nvu. Frontpage (which I use) doesn't add thiz line.

I use EvrSoft First Page 2000 ... and just accept what (little ) they provide as a 'wrapper'. Most HTML assisting programz generate code 4 to 5 timez larger than what you see in these componentz, and the resultz don't look one bit better.

That meanz, if I wantz to make a Walkthrough, I have to download NVU or something, is that right? Not necessarily ... while HTML is something that I prefer (personal opinion) because it allowz the walkthrough to be written in such a way that the reader only seez what s/he wantz to see, and is not 'flashed' with deep dark secretz that they prefer to work out for themselves; a simple text document created in Word (or better, NotePad) will work. All of these HTML postz are merely 'skeletonz' that may be used as starting pointz for creating the 'standard' HTML document that makez it easy for me to maintain the web site. Using different namez for the componentz (even a simple thing as "index.html" instead of "Index.html") createz a bit more work for me ... because I will re-name them to the 'standard' namez. I am a creature of habit, and will tend to type thingz the same way every time ... so when something is changed, I scratch my head and wonder why I get a "page not found" error!

Your browser (Firefox, IE, NetScape, etc.) is capable of displaying the HTML document you create. Each program has (slightly) different wayz of opening and displaying HTML, so you will have to experiment with the program you use to find out how to use your browser to check your progress. Unless you are an HTML 'wizard', if you are using NotePad (or some such program) to create your HTML filez, I heartily recommend testing resultz frequently. It is easier to determine which of the last five thingz you did caused a problem, than which of the last five hundred was at fault!
Using a program designed for HTML construction (such as EvrSoft First Page, which I use) allowz you to flip/flop between creation and (pre-)viewing of your work. There are several freeware/shareware HTML programz available on the Internet, and a store such as Office Depot, Best Buy, Circuit City usually has CD-ROMz for about $5.00 with such programz.

I have replaced all of the Skeleton Custom Level HTML componentz today, so if you are making use of these componentz to create your own walk-throughz, you may want to recapture ALL of them for your future use. There is more standardization, and a 'cleaner' look to each component, and they have been changed to work very well when printed out on USA standard size letter paper (8-1/2" X 11" ... 21.50Cm X 28Cm) with space for three-hole punching and maximum coverage of each printed page.
If you print out on some other size paper, you should change the entry "<table width=758..." to a value that workz best for you.

This component has been radically changed since the last noted update! There are now imagez associated with several entriez, such as the Bare-handed Grunt for the "Gruntz" component reference. All such imagez are 32 pixelz wide by 32 pixelz tall, and precede the text description ... done for better alignment. As new Custom Levelz are submitted to me, I attempt to create game-time "View the map!" imagez for Questz (Battlez are impossible to do, since enemy Gruntz move all over the place). Then I create ThumbNailz for them (standard name "ThumbNail.jpg") which are used in indicez, and may be used in the Index walk-through entry. I also attempt to solve each CL submitted, to verify there are no fatal flawz in the design. If I complete it successfuly (" PERFECT!" or not), I do a PrtSc (print screen) of the Statz Page and SAVE it into the CL's folder (standard name "Statz.jpg") and create a ThumbNail of that (standard name "StatzThumb.jpg"). Those also are used in indicez, and may be used throughout a walk-through (a place is provided in this Index entry as an example). Wherever the string "Designer" existz, it should be replaced with your 'handle' (as I replace it with GooRoo). Similarly, where the string "Custom Level Name" existz, it should be replaced with ... guess what! Sometimez that string containz no spacez, as in the URLz ... remove the spacez from what you replace it with. Your View the map! filename, "ThumbNail.jpg", "Statz.jpg" and "StatzThumb.jpg" memberz will exist in the same folder as the HTML componentz, so there is no need for any relative referencez ... just the actual filename is required. Example of a completed Index.html component

If you have not created your own "skeleton" HTML folder, and capture the elementz from this part of the Forum, you're in luck. You alwayz get the most current version, incorporating everything that I have learned about HTML designz. If you made your own folder, you should refresh everything, because I replaced all of the elementz today.

I am now using NotePad++ to edit HTML elements (it makes a very nice HTML Editor, highlighting tag pairs in different colors).
I will be updating every HTML referred to by this Index (and the Index itself), first removing all BOLD tags, changing TD (Table Data) tags to TH (Table Heading) which makes everything BOLD (for these 76 year-old eyes, very helpful) and setting a default alignment to be left-justified.
A simple comment of some sort will indicate the date changed, so that you know which version you are getting.
