I have tried several different wayz to get a screen grab on my laptop with Vista OS, but Paint does not even have a working paste function ... from Print Scrn (Prt Sc on the laptop). I thought perhapz I needed to use the shift key, so even tried that ... no good. How do you do a Print Screen in Vista? My next trick is to get an Ethernet 'Y' (splitter), so I can access the Internet on the laptop. I don't want to have to disconnect from this (the desktop) computer and re-connect to the laptop ... and then have to switch back again. I do not expect I will ever have a situation where I want to be on the Internet with both computerz at the same time, so there should be no signal problemz with such a split line. But that is an interim solution. With the stock market taking away my money, we will have to cut back soon ... as in dropping the telephone line I use, and have just one line in the future. So the long-term solution is to set up a wireless network, so that both computerz can use the one line, equipped with a fast DSL connection. Something else I have to learn ... how to set up a wireless network at home.

You do a Print Screen in Vista exactly the same as XP - Print Screen, then Ctrl+V into Paint. :/
When you do set up the wireless network, just make sure to enable encryption - WPA at the very least, preferably WPA2. (WEP is easily broken into.)

The clipboard does not seem to work (properly) in Vista ... certainly not as user-friendly as in XP. Whe it comez time to do so, I will take this advice and select the WPA2 option ... thank you!

try ctrl+V to PowerPoint or Word from there you can paste it in Paint... in PowerPoint there is also the option to save picture as... so you do not have to paste it in Paint...

I have the 'student' version of Microsoft Office 2007, which I have not installed on the laptop ... yet. I do not recall PowerPoint being one of the componentz ... but Word certainly is, and I will try that.

The Home and Student version of Office 2007 (which I have) includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.

Just suggestion: Have you tried the Snipping Tool in Vista? Start > type snip and it should appear.

Just suggestion: Have you tried the Snipping Tool in Vista? Start > type snip and it should appear. I would probably need a "cook book" decription of how to use that ... Start;command line;Snip; switch to Gruntz; whatever. Why doesn't a simple print screen (no matter what is on the key) copy the screen image into the clipboard? Is this another of Microsoft's 'improvementz'!

AH! I think I may have it - look in your Gruntz folder. What Gruntz folder? The one on my hard drive? What should I be looking for? Microsoft Vista is the absolute pitz! What was so simple to do on XP is so very difficult on Vista ... like copying (or moving) filez and/or folderz from one place to another! Drag and Drop does not work (in a user-friendly manner) any more! There seemz to be no support for the Prt Sc key in Vista. I wonder if the clipboard even existz as it did in XP!!! It certainly does not seem to support imagez any more ... only certain thingz work at all. As said earlier: definition of an oxymoron: "Microsoft Works".

One of Murphy's Lawz has come to the fore; I need to get my laptop connected to the Internet (@ 56KB ) in order to register Office 2007 ... in order to see if that will fix at least part of my screen grab problem. So far, no program has found anything in the clipboard, so it must be a marvelous Microsoft 'improvement' ... lack of support for the Prt Sc key in Vista. Either that, or my laptop's keyboard must have a problem.

You must have serious problems with the computer. My Vista clipboard works perfectly. Time for a re-install, perhaps? (Often, HP, Dell and the like ship "craplets" with their computers, serving no useful purpose at all, so a re-install would be a good idea anyway.)

Just suggestion: Have you tried the Snipping Tool in Vista? Start > type snip and it should appear. I am now using the laptop (Vista) and have 'discovered' the snipping tool in the menu, when I was searching for the tool to display/copy/paste the expanded character set (I use several in my password, and did not find the character tool ... but found the Snipping Tool). Next, is to open the Snipping Tool and see if there is some sort of 'help' file that will solve my problem.

Just remember, you can find everything in the Start menu much easier with Start Search.

The snipping tool did absolutely no good. If I knew how to use it, it might have been helpful, but there seemz to be a conflight with using it on full screen program screenz ... I cannot seem to have the snipping tool in control on the Gruntz screen.

Problem solved!
This notebook keyboard has an extra key between the ctrl key and the Windows key; that additional key has a little box in the upper left corner with the lettez fn in it. The Prt Sc key also has a box around it! Hold the fn key and press the home/Prt Sc key ... and the image goez into the clipboard, just as one would expect to have happen. So now I will re-educate myself on keyboarding, so that I can do the thingz I want (and need) to do.
