Gruntz will not run on my pc anymore. It opens to the first screen and then shuts down. I have tried reinstalling it a number of times, but no luck. This coincided with my video card taking a dump. I replaced the card, but Gruntz still won't run. Anyone have any ideas?

I replaced the card, but Gruntz still won't run. Anyone have any ideas? When you say "first screen", do you mean the Monolith mini-movie introduction, or the first screen of a Custom Level you want to play? If a Custom Level, have you tried a different one? It would help to know exactly where Gruntz is "giving up the ghost" ... if you can, do a screen grab as near as possible to the point of the failure. E-mail it to me as an attachment, and I will upload it to the web host, and provide a link to it. Then some worthy Gruntzer may be able to provide an answer to your problem.

New video card? Try resetting the resolution to another size with the patch. I just had my computer upgraded (also new video card) and I had to go to the medium size, but it runs just fine there.

It opens the introduction movie page, but when i try to navigate away from that page, the screen goes black and I get the "Gruntz has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message(running xp).

Still I don't know, what introduction page you're talking about. Monolith's movie at the beginning?
I have WinXP and it works perfectly. Oh, and why do you think the reason of errors is your VideoCard? Has Gruntz been working before? Before what? What did you change then, when it stopped working properly?
There is a lot of possibilities, so tell us something MORE.

I obtained Gruntz from RealArcade, so when I start the game, I don't see a movie, just a picture of three tan spongegruntz and one light green boxing glovez grunt, Monolith logo lower left corner, RealArcade logo top right. As soon as I tried to navigate away from that screen to the screen with "single player", "multi player", etc. options, it would shut down. HOWEVER, on the Gruntz advanced menu, I checked "disable direct access video", and now I can get as far as the level loading screen with the progress bar, but as soon as the bar is full, it shuts down. I have even removed the vid card physically from the machine and ran the monitor off the motherboard (which used to work before I added a video card), with the same results. I've had Gruntz on my machine for years, and play it often. This is the first time I have ever had any problems. Starting two weeks ago. my monitor would get a dim red tint to the display periodically, then friday afternoon when I booted the machine, I had no display at all, determined it was the video card, and the trouble began. I don't seem to have any problems with any other applications, just Gruntz. Frustrating.

Have you changed your Operating System recently ... since the last time you successfully played Gruntz?
There is definitely a problem with running Gruntz on Vista in 1024X768 screen resolution ... even the patch we have does not work. On Windows XP Gruntz ran perfectly in 1024X768 ... and every other screen resolution higher than the default. (I am now using a notebook computer with Vista Home Premium Edition, and can only play in 800X600 screen resolution.)

Like I said, try the 800x600 screen resolution. Gaby and I have both gotten new video cards, and this is what we had to do.

My machine is now not recognizing the new graphics card . I now suspect the mother board is going teats up(again). Probably time for a new computer, this one is 9 years old. Thanks for all the help.

Have you installed the drivers for the new card?
