Here's a challenge for any bored people:
See if you can come up with an algorithm to mimick the original Gruntz pathfinding
It took a good amount of procrastination in lectures today to do it, and I had to run a few ideas past my mathmo friends and believe me, Cambridge mathmos are CLEVER!!!

Gruntz now correctly pathfind This was never the case in earlier Dizgruntled releases, I originally implemented a hack which worked some of the time.. Very exciting, even if it's because it was so tricksy to get right!

Worked on streamlining the rendering process this afternoon. It now runs over 10 times faster on modern machines than the previous release which is VERY COOL!

Salutations to you all, it's me again ^^ First of all: I'm glad to see dizgruntled again, I do hope to see more of it in the future, I'm still interested in the question will we be able to convert various image tilesets import them to your program and use them? how will the game be played a specific enginge is used or is it modified to suit gruntz?

Hi captaingoo! Yes, you will be able to use your own tilesets very easily infact, just with a spritesheet image and a file which tells the engine what sort of behaviour the tiles have. Dizgruntled is based on my own Java game engine, you can find the sources at bitbucket.org/pointcliki/

Did lots of work today on Dizgruntled. Gruntz can now pick up toolz toys and powerps While it will in no way replace the old tiles, I've also been playing around with my own 'modern' tile set ideas for arrowz/pyramidz etc. Won't be long now until I release a version of the level editor that you can play around with.

You can now create and modify some basic types of logic Only really need to get saving and loading of custom maps now and I'll be ready to distribute a downloadable demo of progress so far... Placing new scenery... Modifying gruntz...

I like what you've done with the logicz ... replacing 'T', 'S', etc. with imagez (yin/yang style for Pyramidz ... 'toggle' sort image for Switchez) ... and apparently you are also placing them (optional?) in the upper left hand corner for the first one, upper right-hand corner for the second. The arrow image with the tilde sort of underline is for SecretTileTriggerz? Nice! All of this sort of makez me wish I were still a programmer ... and had kept up with next generation languagez. As it is, I can modify JavaScript (as for this Forum) and work with simple HTML, but wouldn't dare try to create anything in JavaScript ... or PHP (another competing scripting type language). And I am also the embodiment of a retiree ... wondering how I ever got anything done when I was working 40+ hourz a week for a living ... seeing as how there never seemz to be enough time to get everything done in 168 hourz a week! So taking a class is out of the picture.

I have a question, will it be possible to have tilez arranged by categories, like "plateaus", "water", "holes", "stairs" etc.?

Haha the tilde with an arrow is supposed to be a tree on a hill, to represent the landscape changing! Programming is good fun, perhaps you'll be more satisfied when you can program your Gruntz around in Lua? I guess the thing with this now is that I'm not just making Dizgruntled for the hell of it, I'm thinking of doing a start up next summer for educational games for kids (adults always welcome ) to teach them how to program, and it just so happens that Gruntz has practically the same core design that I'd like to use in my own games i.e. the cellular layout with characters moving around. Zu, in reply to your comment, I introduce SMARTS. These are draggable terraforming tools. For example, in the future you will just drag across an area to make a hill for it, or to place arrows or water etc.

Right, I'm very pleased to announce that I've now completed enough of the editor to be able to release Alpha 2.5! Over the next day or so I'll update the website to reflect the recent work, and make a distribution that you can download and try out.
