Yeah.
Now when making a custom level, I know it's important to not have too much empty space. I can't make a level without doing that. I have tried that but failed. And I might have made some excuses for it, but the thing is the excuses aren't justified.
Keep in mind that I'm not at all saying that I'm quitting the game Gruntz, there are over 500 levels and I haven't even tried half of them, so there always will be something for me to do.
I believe I'm doing every player of Gruntz a favor by quitting making levels. Making videos on YouTube is something I'm good at, so now that I'm done making Gruntz levels I can focus more on that.
It was fun to make levels while it lasted, but constantly getting the same criticism (the fact that I leave too much empty space) isn't fun anymore.
Now I'm not saying at all that you guys shouldn't make new levels, well, we already have plenty so nobody has to. But if you like making levels feel free to do it.

You don't have to quit making them altogether. Once Dizgruntled is finally finished, we will most likely get a chance of using a much more user-friendly editor, which will hopefully allow for easily moving entire parts of levels, so you would be able to just rearrange your level once it's finished to use much less space.
It may take time before it happens, but hey, it's not impossible.

Alright, I went to the thread of my latest Gruntz level and noticed someone was praising it.
Well, alright, maybe I reacted to criticism the wrong way.
However, I still stick my decision on not making any more levels. With over 500 levels I highly doubt I will be able to put something new to the table. Almost anything has been done.
And due to the limited amount of tools, etc. there really is nothing new I can do with the levels. And I don't want the levels to have the same stuff other levels have.
Also, I wanna repeat that I'm not leaving this community or stop playing Gruntz at all. I'm just no longer a level designer.

Let me just say that your 3D Lava level was the first custom map I ever played(it was first alphabetically). To someone who had only experienced the standard levelz before, it blew my mind, and it was simple, not too confusing, easy to figure out what to do. It was a great introduction to the world of custom levelz.

I haven't made a CL for years now, but I would never say "I've stopped making CLz". Why are you doing that? It's always possible that one day you may discover "Hey, I wanna create a CL right now!"!?

My reasons for no longer making levels is stated in earlier posts. But seeing as I'm a nice person, I will explain it anyway. The main reason I stopped making them is because there really is nothing new to add. To me everything has been done before, I really am out of ideas. Yeah in the first post I might have stated that the reason I stopped is because I suck at it. But it really isn't the main reason anymore. The main reason for it is because I don't feel like I can add anything new. Anyway, I'm gonna say that I'm happy to know that someone is still making Gruntz levels, that gives me material for my Gruntz playthrough videos.

Honestly, I agree with Perfect. What if something comes to your mind? I also thought there was nothing new to add, then suddenly I thought of an erupting volcano, which I'm pretty sure has never been done before. I used a curse to create a decent puzzle before, too.
Trust me, the nature of this game makes for near infinite possibilitiez and combinationz. You can stop making levelz, but there's no need to set that in stone, because you just might feel like making one eventually.
Even if there are not new puzzlez in your level, you can combine them in a new fashion. Or you can even innovate in tile design. And how many of us remember the levelz that we last played several yearz ago? I certainly don't, so it sure wouldn't be as repetitive as you might think. My point is, IMHO, it's totally unnecessary to be 100% sure never to make a level again.

I understand exactly what you mean. If I decide one day to make a new level, I will officially announce that I'm back from retirement.
However, as of right now I no longer am active when it comes to making levels.
Yes, there is a chance that I could one day decide to go back to making Gruntz level, however I don't see that happening in the near future, maybe in the distant future, but not in the near future.

Hey, what about making battlez CLz? There are not so many right now, and it is very difficult to create battlez that are entertaining and challenging when played both against AI and humans. With a cool battle map it is possible to think of thousands of strategiez to thrill your (human) opponent (I could use toyz excessively to let his Gruntz fall of the map, I could work with a barrier of long-range Gruntz, I could rely on my brickz and go straightforward trying to break his onez faster, I could use power-upz, I could have a strong sword brigade, I could hide somewhere, ... ... ... ). And: I think, there is NO custom battlez level concerning the secret winning condition! With human opponentz and a cool map, this could be used for "capture the flag"-like gaming.

Secret winning condition, what was that again? It had something to do with Warpstone, right?

Well, there is a reason why not many battle levels are being made, because the quest levels are a lot more fun to play.

Honestly, I'd say that with online play finally working, Battlez levelz can become something much more entertaining now. I still look forward to seeing other people in this forum join us on GameRanger so we can have some gamez. It's incredibly fun.

Wait, playing Gruntz online actually works now? That's awesome. I got bored of battling against dumb computer players. (yeah, even the "difficult" ones are too dumb.)
I might be interested in testing playing Gruntz online out. That is something I'm interested in doing.
But sorry, I won't be making any battle levels. However, I believe there is one I made in the past that would work great. It has orange switches which you needed wings/springs to access.
Yeah, just tell me how to play Gruntz online and I'd gladly do it some day.

Get GameRanger, make an account and you should be set. I think you have to set Gruntz as one of your gamez, I don't remember if it detects it automatically.
Then just find me and Reiner Rubin, he usually hosts the gamez when we play.

Secret winning condition, what was that again? It had something to do with Warpstone, right? Yes. You need the 4 warpstone piecez in the game and 4 warpstone-only checkpoint switchez for each king. The player who manages to lay the 4 piecez onto his switchez wins. Sounds easy to realize, but there is a problem: The player numberz of fortz, flagz and starting pointz are chosen randomly before starting, and someone forgot to apply this to the switchez as well: The switchez for player 0 let player 0 win, but noone knows his ID. Perhaps this issue could be resolved in Dizgruntled. Honestly, I'd say that with online play finally working, Battlez levelz can become something much more entertaining now. I still look forward to seeing other people in this forum join us on GameRanger so we can have some gamez. It's incredibly fun. I already had some small Gruntz sessionz in my LAN, and it was just, yes, incredibly fun! However, I believe there is one I made in the past that would work great. It has orange switches which you needed wings/springs to access. "The oil split" is yours? As I already said: Get GameRanger, make an account and you should be set. ...it's drilling holez into my firewallz, right? Need to set up a DMZ before doing that.

Alright, guys I'm thinking about returning to level making.
I know I'm not gonna add something new or unique, that's impossible since everything that can be done in Gruntz already has been done.
But I do have a minor idea on a new level.
Once I have a bigger idea on a new Gruntz level I'll start working on it.
Any of you who thought I wasn't gonna be gone forever were right.
Keep in mind that this is NOT my official return, I'm just thinking about coming back.

Eh, what's the use?
There is no point in returning if no one cares anymore.
Sorry, but my retirement is sticking.

Eh, what's the use? There is no point in returning if no one cares anymore. Sorry, but my retirement is sticking. Apathy is the natural state of human beings, it seems. But just because no one has taken the time to comment in reply to a post does not mean that no one cares. It only means that no reply seems necessary. If you create another CL, that's great! The response will come when an announcement is made, and a BETA tester is requested. Even I am limiting my involvement to reading new posts, keeping the News Fader as up-to-date as possible ... and occasionally fixing broken links. There are only so many hours in a day, and SO many things to accomplish that some things are relegated to "the back burner".

It is plainly obvious that this message board is very inactive. For the past month the only people who have made posts are you, me and Zu. Shouldn't that be enough proof that this place is very deserted? If I make a level I want it to be a level that many people play. And as of now I'm worried that wouldn't be the case.
