Sounds similar to my problem, which is that my firewall identifies a DLL as a virus, and removes it. It seems that this very old game (1999, last marketed) suddenly has a malicious virus that only recently was identified.

Did you reinstall the game from CD-ROM? If so, the quarantined DLL would be recovered. If so, there is another problem that I cannot diagnose remotely.

Have you tried launching the game with administrator's privileges or using the Windows 98/2000/XP compatibility mode? (Right click -> Properties)

Have you tried launching the game with administrator's privileges or using the Windows 98/2000/XP compatibility mode? (Right click -> Properties) I have tried various compatibility modes (under admin authority!), but keep getting exception code 0xc0000022 ... and Gruntz never launches at all. CRS's problem seems to be that it launches, but then crashes. Of course, it wasn't made plain exactly WHEN it crashed. If it happens when a puzzle is selected, the problem could be with the puzzle map, and not with the game engine, itself.
