My name is John and I had played Gruntz sometime in the early 2000s, back when RealArcade was still a thing and it hosted this game, but I had rediscovered it a couple years ago after long since forgetting the name like I did many of the enjoyable games I found on RealArcade. I remember enjoying it a lot, mainly playing around with skirmishes while never actually going through the story/campaign nor playing multiplayer as I was like 4, 5 or maybe 6 years old, barely knowing what I was doing and was just playing to have fun. I only recently found this site through MyAbandonware.org from a comment left on the Gruntz page and the amount of custom maps intrigued me.

I also enjoy the feeling of coming back to a game you once played many years ago... And these thoughts, like "what I was even doing then?" Happy Gruntzing, John! Good to have you back!

Do you still have the game? RealArcade was a downloadable version, with the CD requirement removed. I have no idea whether it was upgraded to version 1.01 or not (some errors in the 'standard' levels corrected) or just version 1 with errors that did not affect Custom Levelz. If you need anything to reacquaint yourself with Gruntz, just post it here.

Sorry I didn't see your reply way earlier, but I did not have the RealArcade version then as I had originally played it on a very old pc I used to have that is long since been decommissioned. Recently, though, I've found an archived version of the game installer for RealArcade and it says it's version 1.10.

Version 1.10 is probably what RealArcade marked it as, as a version that does not require the CD for play. Whether that has the version 1.01 patches applied as well, you will be able to tell us after you manage to get it installed. If the "fixes" described in the readme for version 1.01 have been made, you have a real gem!
