You have to bring the shovel and gauntlets back out and then re-enter with the shovel and boots

Well, if you're where I think you are with the 3 green switches, then you should enter with the gauntlets and boots, then send the boots out and bring the shovel in, then bring the shovel and gauntlets out and send the shovel and boots in.

That is where I was stuck earlier...it is doable.... now begs the question....how am I to defeat 4 sword gruntz? If I gang up on two of them, they whack one or another of my gruntz to death! I can't lure just one at a time, they both come at me at once!

Yes, Gaby, go through the checkpoint....send gauntletz to stand near the CP, and send shovelz to the secret switch....then on to fight the swordz!
I did it by sending the boxer to the left side, attracting one sword, hitting and then moving back...takez a few hitz, but he getz the job done...Kill the next one the same way. Then move him up to the left side and box the next one into the hole, you'll take a hit from the other sword, but there is zap cola if you need it...
Then when you move up the left side toward the BOTS, have gauntletz trigger the RW to get the "P"....!
I gave the boxer the gauntletz because he did such a good job of getting those sword gruntz.
The next part you will remember from Uphill Battle! (Oh, those memories are still very fresh!)
I managed to stay at full health, break all the rockz, and move down to the YHS, break those rockz, step on the switch so the RR can move along and wait by the row of GP'z. DON"T GET THE WARPSTONE YET!
When the RR goez over the GTS, move up to the BOTS, and then up to the next row of GP'z.
When the RR getz trapped between the two arrowz, you can break the row of rockz, get the coinz and go back for the warpstone!
I did it in 59:20 PERFECT! Thanks everyone! Now on to The Rock II !

yep... that 'Uphill Battle' method did the job... I did not even have to use the zap kola... and it's another PERFECT....

Now that you've made it, I'll tell you another way of doing the first 2 swordz. Have your shovel and gauntletz both at full health. Place one directly underneath the rock and move your other grunt to his right and ahead far enough to attract the swordz. Move your man back to beside the other so both of you can attack at once. After the first one is dead, retreat, and then repeat the procedure on the other one.

Why waste time? You can get the job done a lot quicker my way.. and besides, you can only carry 1 grunt forward to the final battle scene and he gets a full case of Zap cola.

I am going to upload the walkthrough for "The Rock" to my web host, and link to it in the original post in this thread. But I am afraid that this CL is flawed, because I solved it without releasing 'the rock'. I also had an extra Grunt to maneuver with, because of the way I went about thingz. My way probably takez a lot more game timer time than Guenter's intended solution. The health level of my Gruntz made the ending a lot more dicey as well. (Imagine all three Gruntz; Boxing Glovez, Gauntletz and Shovel each with the very thinnest of red health linez ... before(!) one Grunt enterz the final battle area against those Rock-Throwers, Clubz and Sword Gruntz!) For those interested in trying to solve "The Rock" without releasing the sphere, the most difficult part is right at the beginning, before SpongeGun 'enticez' the enemy SpongeGun Gruntz onto those Yellow Switchez. (And getting to the final set of Gauntletz, for the final battle, of course. )

WOW... you are very brave... to play with so little health... it's very challenging... about timing the game... I often love to stretch the time I play... just for fun...
