The background images used on this Forum are 1024X768 (or so); do you view the Forum with a scrollbar at the bottom (horizontal scrolling) as well as one to the right (vertical scrolling)?
Or (perish the thought!) is your screen display thoroughly bolloxed?
Approximately 60% of the visitors to this site have 1024X768 screen resolution, with about 30% having screen resolutions smaller than that, the rest with larger screen resolutions. So about 70% of the viewers see the display as I do (1 in 7 see it slightly 'tiled'); if 1024X768 means that 800X600 (or smaller) screen resolution viewers are greatly inconvenienced, I will adjust everything to 800X600. If two or more of the members are truly unhappy with this screen resolution because of scrolling to view the larger display, that is reason enough to adjust things. If only one person says they cannot live with this screen display, and will stay away because of it, I will seriously consider changing to make this Forum usable for just one. If it is a mere annoyance, I will keep things just as they are.

I have a vertical scroll bar, but no horizontal scroll--everything fits nice and neat into my screen size. And all the images are nice and neat. No bolloxed up display here!

What is the last thing you see at the right edge of the screen, when you are on the main page (before entering any Boards/threads)? I am using a 1280X1024 screen resolution, with an Internet Explorer window of about 1024X1000, and see a very slight tiling effect on the right edge, and about two-thirds of "Gruntz" tiling at the bottom of the window.

I see the right edge of the Gruntz splash screen background and the vertical scroll bar. There is no "tiling" effect that I noticed, although the background is quite pixelated but that is very fixable.

I see the right edge of the Gruntz splash screen background and the vertical scroll bar. Then a portion of the background image is being cut off at the right edge ... no biggie. When I have nothing better to do I plan to re-do the 8 Gruntz main page background screen grabs, and use JPEG instead of GIF as the stored type. Originally I was using BMPs, and they ran 3.2MB each ... took 'way too long to load. The GIFs run around 400KB, but for some reason were stored pixelated, as you have noticed. Perhaps that is because GIFs use fewer colors (granted, that is probably the truth), but why the colors were replaced with colors so far away from the pixels north, south, east and west is a mystery to me. Every now and then, when I get frustrated with my lack of progress on "Knight'z Tour", I search for a script that will allow me to display any of the 8 background images in a random fashion. I already have a code that will do that, but it is invoked every time the user does anything that refreshes the main page. I am looking for something that will 'remember' that the user has been to the main page once today, and re-use the same image every time ... only selecting a new background when the day (or the viewer) changes.

I can help you out with the Main page splash screen background. My lovely wife has already converted it to JPG format and compressed it. I will send it to you in an e-mail. I think you, and everyone else, will be pleased with how it turned out. As for the rest of the screenshots, she said you're going to have mixed results. Any screenshots that have a lot of "noise" in them will be difficult to compress without losing some of the pixel integrity.

As you probably noticed when you logged in to the main page, the JPG is now in place instead of the pixelated GIF as the background file. FriedGruntzaholic, just FYI, my naming convention for the other backgrounds: -
Shi_B | Shield & Boomerang(?) |
Toobz | Toobz (what else?) |
S_W | SpngeGun(?) & Wingz(?) |
They all made perfect sense to me at the time, but now I see that there are some ambiguities ... does "S" stand for "Shield", "Sword" or "SpongeGun"; same for "B" ... when you look at the screen, you will know what the letterz stand for.
