Morning all, Forgive me if I'm touching on a sensitive subject, but here goes:
I've just bought Gruntz, mainly to use on my laptop. I plan to play it while travelling, etc, and as you can imagine, having to cart games CDs everywhere is something of a pain.
Is anyone aware if there is a No CD fix so that I don't need it?
If so, where can I get it?
Cheers

Hi, Rob, and welcome to our forum. I don't think this as sensitive a subject as it used to be. Many, many, games, particularly older games that are no longer published, have had no-CD cracks made for them. And if the game is no longer published and is not likely to have a sequel made, most of the publishers seem to be willing to overlook things like that. As far as I am aware, there is not a no-CD crack available. The closest thing that you're going find to that is to download Gruntz from the RealArcade Games site. But that's going to cost you, and you've obviously shelled out some dough for Gruntz already, so that may not be a very attractive option.
BTW, how long have you had Gruntz and where did you purchase it? We constantly get questions from potential Gruntzerz who have downloaded the demo, played it and liked it, and want to upgrade to the full CD version. Unfortunately, it is getting harder and harder to find outlets that sell Gruntz. We would like to learn who has it available so that we can steer people who want the game in those directions.

Hello there, Thanks for your helpful reply. I originally got the demo about 4 years ago, on my old Acer laptop (which was about 15 centimetre thick ) but money was a wee bit of an issue at the time, so I didn't get the full thing. I just bought it on Ebay last week, bundled up with Shogo (which, to be honest, was the main reason I bought the pack) and Speed Demon. Which I've never heard of. From memory, there were quite a few copies on there. This was my seller: feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws1/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=paisleypcsPeople could, perhaps, ask him where he got it? I've emailed Monolith to ask them if they'd be kind enough to send me a crack. Will let you know. Rob

Oh, I should state: 1. It was a new purchase from ebay: shrink wrapped and everything 2. Real player is, IMHO, the work of the devil.
Don't even get me started on quicktime...

Hello again, everyone.
No word from Monolith yet. Get the feeling they aren't going to respond.
Which means we're unlikely to get a patched version from them.
Which raises the question, would anyone here feel comfortable patching the .exe for those of us who want to use Gruntz on the go without having to carry CD's with us? (forgive me: I would do it myself but messing around with programming language is slightly beyond me and probably not something I would ever be able to learn in 100 years)

A CD-ROM in a slimline jewel case does not take up much space ... no room to put it in a pocket of the computer carrier? And if you have a CD burner, you could always make a back-up copy for yourself, setting the original CD-ROM aside in a protected area, to be re-used if something should happen to your back-up that you use regularly. Something like sitting on the jewel case, breaking it and the contents thereof. There may be someone around capable of creating such a patch, but I (for one) would consider that unethical. Better to use the RealArcade (downloadable) version which apparently already has such a patch applied, and with the knowledge and permission of Monolith Productions, Inc.

There is a Program that can help its called Virtual Drive Manager. It works in the way that it creates an extra virtual cd drive. You then copy the cd to your harddrive. The virtual cd's size is +- the size of the cd. The size in mb not the physicle size. This doesn't work on most newer games but it works in gruntz. The website were you can get it is www.farstone.com hope this helps. I'm just not certian if there is a freeware version on the site. Otherwise you have to google to find it. If you such a program on the site could you please post the website to save other the time if finding. Thanks
