Because of the problems I am having with doing maintenance on the web storage site, the very more recent Custom Levelz sent to me will only be available to members of the "Gruntz Fanz" address list. Tomorrow I will be sending out three (or perhapz four!) new Custom Levelz. I have held three of them up because I could not make them available for download. But for the one I have had the longest, that is already four dayz delay in releasing the CL. I don't want anyone to have to wait any longer, so will e-mail them about 14 to 16 hourz from now (the time of this post).
Now is the time to request to be added to the "Gruntz Fanz" list, if you want to receive these CLz at the same time about 48 people receive them. I do not want to be sending out these CLz to individualz, as they request them ... too much time gathering together the attachmentz.
I received an e-mail from my web host support today, and am assured that my problems have now been fixed!
They migrated to a new server, and took all my files and folders to the new one. Now all I need to do is learn how to maneuver around the new (and very different!) maintenace site. So I will not be spending a lot of time overseeing what is going on with this Forum until I get all of the backlog of new designers' folderz and Custom Level folderz created an populated.
After the new Designers' folderz are created, and the recent CLz available for (normal) download, I will be working on the walkthroughz I have received ... and been unable to properly store. So I will not be doing any more testing (except for the two I already have in-house) until thingz are back to 'normal' (whatever that is ).
Well, I am unable (temporarily, I hope) to add new Custom Levelz for download.
Apparently, on the new server, the single quote (') is a forbidden character in file/folder namez ... a minor thing. So I have to remove the apostrophe from "Grimley's Island", for example ... we can live with that.
I can move filez from one place to another ... a good thing!
I cannot re-name the file so moved ... a bad thing!
The selection box is 'way over on the right ... far removed from the file/folder name ... poor design. (But I least I found it, by using the scroll bar. The screen must be designed to 1280X1024 screen resolutions. I can display that, but it messes up the Forum display, if I leave it that size.)
I have updated Gaby's, Oldone's, Reece's and GooRoo's folders with the CLz released since about November, 2005. I know that there are a few designers who did not have folders when the first problem arose ... now I need to jog my memory as to who needs a folder created in their 'name', then folder(s) for their Custom Level(z). Then locate the Statz Page JPEGz in their 'temporary' location, and move them where they belong ... and correct the thread linkz to those imagez. I will have my handz full for quite a few hourz ... and however many dayz it takez me to find the hourz to fix thingz.
I would appreciate it if anyone who findz broken linkz would PM me with the information:
thread (the URL would be great!)
the link(z) that does not bring up the desired object
To provide the URL of the thread, click in the browser dialog box (Address, or some such description) to highlight the entire URL. I then use Ctrl-c to copy the URL into my clipboard, and Ctrl-v to paste it into a post (or private message). Highlight the URL in the post, and select the button to wrap the proper UBBC codez around it. Remove the first ] and replace it with =, and add back the ] after the last highlighted character, just before the [. Then type (or copy and paste) the thread name to generate a complete link, as
I have created folders for four new Designerz, and folderz for the dozen or so new Custom Levelz they (and I) have created in the last two monthz or so. I am sending out two new CLz within a few minutes from now, and have stored Statz Page imagez for them in their newly created folders. But there is a 'permissions' error that preventz me from viewing the stored imagez. A 'ticket' is now open, describing the problem. At least we are now working our way back to full operation ... that's a good thing!
Someone on the Neron Hosting support staff even went so far as to register here, to see first-hand what our needz are ... another 'good thing'! Any transition is going to see some problemz, and (so far) the problemz experienced by this Forum are no more than a minor annoyance ... not a back-breaker, by any meanz. There are also some advantagez that the new server system givez us:
more file storage space
more bandwidth (hardly a problem for this Forum anyway ... but nice to have)
an easily accessed support system, when problemz are encountered
Now, on to distribute those two new CLz to those on the "Gruntz Fanz" mailing list.
It is the week-end (and the United States, a long one, with President's Day on Monday) and the last two problemz have not been resolved yet. I will probably not be fixed until Tuesday. So one more Custom Level will be only available via e-mail and the "Gruntz Fanz" mailing list. I expect to be sending out Gaby's newest one tomorrow.
I received an e-mail today from Neron Hosting support, stating that they know the reason for my problem in accessing the Custom Levelz folder. For some reason the apostrophe (') character is now unacceptable, and there are several CLz that had that character in their file name. The support staff will rename those for me, and I will change the link pathnames, removing the apostrophes.
Do not use contractions or possessives in CL names, please!
Today I was finally able to access the custom level folder! After dinner (it is almost 5:00PM for me) I will be going through the recent Custom Level submissionz, and determine which onez need to be uploaded to the web host so that they may be downloaded by Gruntzerz not on the "Gruntz Fanz" e-mail distribution list. (That will allow me to clean out my e-mail folderz, which have grown to over 40% full ... and have been as high as 63% full. I have been in danger of exceeding my limit, if the designerz had submitted walkthroughz for all of the new CLz that have been released this year!)
Give me about a week, and those designerz will be able to send me walkthroughz for me to make available on-line.
Next, I will have the web host support staff tackle my problem of not being able to view the imagez such as Statz Pagez that I have uploaded. (That may also effect walkthroughz ... it probably does, since I have not been able to view one of the late 2005 walkthroughz.)
I will next modify the original post in this thread to change the sad smiley to a happier one.
I uploaded 16 CUstom Levelz to the web host today, but each and every one of them turns out to be only 1 byte long when I attempt to download them! I have opened another "trouble ticket" decribing the problem, in hopes that it will be corrected (soon!). But (while a download dialog window will open) it is still not possible to download the Custom Levelz released after January 25th, 2006. The last working downloadz are for Reece's Custom Levelz, "ToyingAbout" and "Bootz,GlovezAndArmor".
Your best hope for receiving newly released Custom Levelz is to be added to the "Gruntz Fanz" distribution list.
Well, this Forum is now hosted with GoDaddy.com, and the buttonz, emoticonz, Statz Pagez, Walkthroughz and backgroundz are accessed just fine. But not a single download have I been able to make, of CLz that I know are properly uploaded to the web host, the URLz to retrieve them are correct (no typoz), et cetera. It occurred to me that perhapz GoDaddy does not recognize the WWD filetype, and that is what is causing the download problem. I sent an e-mail to them abut it, but have not received a response ... yet. I am hoping it is a relatively simple matter of them adding an entry to an "acceptable file typez" table, that will get us "on the road" soon.
:)I'm so very happy for you GooRoo. I know what a disappointment and a headache this has all been and now to see everything coming back together so nicely, well it's just . . . I can't even find the right wordz. Joyous I guess.
A million games out there and I get stuck in a Gruntz game!
