I recently replaced my old 1999 machine running Win 98SE with a custom built job running Win XP. After installing Gruntz, the game would not run in any resolution other than 600x480, as I expected. No matter, we have patches to fix that. After downloading and installing the patches, I discovered that the game would only work with the 800x600 patch and not the 1024x768 patch. With the 1024x768 patch, the game acts as though it is going to load but then freezes for several seconds before crashing altogether and asking if I want to send a report to Microsoft . Does anybody have any ideas what's causing this and how to fix it?

I am assuming that you have no problem with screen resolutionz of 1024X768 (or greater) with anything other than Gruntz, right? You mention a "custom built job running Windows XP" ... do you know what video card you are using? Perhapz there is something in the documentation of the screen resolution patch that mentionz compatibility issuez with certain video cardz ... just a thought.

i think the problems are only with the Nvidia cards ?
When you use the update version from Nvidia 61.77 then it gives no problems all versions above this version give problems in a resolution 1024x768

I have Windows XP myself, with Intel'z intergrated graphicz. I have no problem with the graphicz at all, so it must be the graphicz card. If possible, could you give who made the graphicz card? (It should be in Device Manager, if you know how to find it! )

Here's the lowdown on my hardware: - AMD Athlon 64 3000+ processor
- Nvidea nForce4 chipset
- ATI Radeon X300/x550 series video card
The documentation that came with the patches does not mention any compatibility issues, just merely provides instructions for installation. And 1024x768 is my default screen resolution.

Hmmmmm! My screen resolution for Windows XP is 1280X1024. I wonder if your problem has anything to do with the fact that your (desired) Gruntz screen resolution is the same as your Windows screen size? (That is, if the patch has a problem with running in the same size screen as the system default.)

Nope. I set the resolution to several different settings, both higher and lower, and that did nothing for the problem. It's probably an issue with the video card.

I will make that one my default. Edit: Yep, my PC workz on 1024x768. It iz definitely the video card.
