Today I decided to see what will happen if I put "16" in the pointz box for an enemy in a custom level. The result was a grunt that was quite mysterious . the enemy was colored as a magic enemy (point #15), but he was carrying a scroll! When my grunt aproached him (I put a direction value of 2), he gave my grunt a scroll to be read. The effect was short, because he whacked my grunt without waiting for him to finish. I tried giving him a toy at the same time and my grunt read the scroll while the enemy played . Also, another interesting trait about the grunt was that he does not follow after your grunt to attack, he will wait until his stamina regenratez and then try to attack if the grunt is still in his range. I'm not sure what to call this grunt, but post scroll grunt may work .

Interesting! I will have to try this one out for myself, in order to create a thread (or modify an existing one) about enemy Grunt type 16.

Maybe it is not in the GLE embedded 'Help' file, but it certainly is described in this Forum's Gruntz Level Editor manual! (Although I did not experiment with changing the characteristicz of the Magic Wand via the dialog boxez.) We now have an idea of how to vary our EyeCandy appearance ("Flags:") and now yet another enemy Grunt type! It just requirez a bit of playing around with these thingz in a small test CL, so that the effectz may be properly written up for otherz to use.

The only way to get your grunt to read the scroll the enemy givez you is to keep him occupied with a toy as well! Otherwise, he will attack you before you are done , so it can be tricky to put this grunt into good use in a level (it'z probably why monlith never mentioned it). As for controlling the spell, there is probably no way, I attempted to put a value in for the scroll I wanted to be read, but it didn't work . Another thing about the scrollz your grunt startz reading, so far all of them have been for: freeze, resurrection, and health. I'm not sure if the other spellz are read (the rockz, teleport, and toyz). I have a feeling that someone may have been working on this AI type and never quite finished it.

oops... ... now I remember one of the CLz having enemy Magic Wand in it, and he cast the spell... so the new type acts like the toyer to keep the grunt occupy and maybe lose health?...

No, it'z more like a tricky-to-use-once-time-only spell grunt. But they will definatly get the first strike if given nothing to be occupied with. The grunt does not chase you until he regainz his stamina (like the AI in battlez), so it'z pretty easy to get away from him.

While reading this I began thinking of possible uses of this grunt... He could be used with welders to block the path, unless you have a toy. Or making you stop in a bad position.

So, this new type of Grunt lookz like the magic onez, but before attacking givez your grunt a scroll? That's wierd.

You will not be stopped by this type of grunt. Unlike toyerz, these guyz hit without waiting for you to read the scroll. If you do want to stop a grunt someplace bad, use a toyer with a beach ball.

I know - but i meant stop you in the path of a RB, the possibility of this grunt type is that he wont follow you after he dilivered the scroll and hit , and he is not stopping you for a long time like a toyer (but probably longer than a normal hit). The other thing i mentioned was the possibility of giving this grunt a welder, making him a death trap - unless you give him a toy. Then you may kill him ordinary.

Hmmm... the welder idea is a good one. But wouldn't it be simpler to put a checkpoint instead (unless it'z a special puzzle) Gruntz are limited in the game (45 enemiez per level, sometimez that'z not enough). I have very often seen gruntz in placez where something else would have done just about as well (putting an enemy sword in a field of rockz with timebombz under them is pointless, he diez when the field is clear). Of course if your level doesn't require many enemiez, you may use them in unneeded placez.

my enemy #16 does not carry a scroll (he is gray) and he attacks when my grunt comes near him but does not give anything... ... and he does follow me...

What version of gruntz do you have? I have version 1.11. It may be because you have a different version. Or maybe that'z the real AI. Try experimenting with different thingz, maybe you'll figure something out. BTY: did you know that the only AI color so far that is not included in the quest levelz is grey??! (that is why I believe he may may be the true AI type or maybe the color showz up differently for me)

I got the 1.01 version (original+patch)... you are right about the color it's the same as #15 (dark yellow)... gray is indeed the only color with no AI ... that's because in the space area he will be merged with the gray background

I've discovered something new relating to this grunt. If you put a 16 in the pointz value for your grunt, your grunt startz the level with a scroll! Also one way to use the scroll grunt without a toy is to start him with a wand (so he will not attack) . Puzzle use: I'm creating a new level in which I used a scroll grunt. The scroll grunt is used to stop the player'z bomb grunt. He was lured into position by gauntletz giving him a toy.

There should be no more Gruntz typez - I wrote 17 at the Points: value and then a Dumb Chaser appeared..... in other wordz, no more colorz are available!
