I am amazed. It got down to fifteen last night at my house. We've had snow on the ground for a solid week. This is off and on the case since winter settled down hard in October. But we've also had beautiful warm days like today. I could go outside right now in short sleeves. If the wamth keeps up, the snow will be gone in the blink of an eye.
Santa Fe had 24" yesterday. Albuquerque had 14-18". In the mountainous areas, there was much, much, more. Freeways, highways, are constantly being shut down this winter, traffic backed up for 20-30 miles. Police deliver food, blankets, clothing, medicine, etc to the stranded motorists and those in need.
Snow and icy cold weather is suddenly the norm.
I've lived here all my life (long time) and this weather is a real turn around for us. Of course, we've had bad weather times, even blizzards, but NM weather is a lot like Florida, without the hurricanes. Even the blizzard effects were gone 1-2 days.
We're a dry southwest desert state. Our fears are mostly fires, no water, and sunburn. (the devil made me add the last part ) Snow melts off in a couple hours and we never get enougn to raise the water table to a comfortable degree. I've seen a greener desert maybe ten times in my life but by May - June, dust kicks up when you walk. August can be miserably hot. What we've just got in snow is welcome but far from enough. And usually this amount is spread over the winter months, not all at once. Wet one moment, gone the next.
So, I am amazed at this winter.
