I just discovered that the last global update renumbered quite a few of the threadz on this Forum ... so there are now link errorz in every single one of the Index componentz! I am taking time away from solving to update them ... 512 CLz indexed five different wayz accountz for a lot of checking. My first task will be to determine a plan of attack that will guarantee that I get everything, without doing things multiple timez for the same CL. So I will work from the alphabetical order listz ... 0-9 first, and have all 8 graphicz set Indicez open along with all of the Release date Indicez, and mark the by difficulty Indicez that need to be corrected separately, along with the Designer Indicez. Lotz of printing, in order to have something hardcopy to mark for the other updatez. (I think that 24 tabz may be more than enough to throw me, and my six year old computer. 50+ Designerz and 35 or so difficulty definitely would exhaust my capability to cope!)

Wow. Such are the wonderz of ProBoards sometimez. I'm sure there's a reason behind suddenly changing so many thread numberz, but it's such huge trouble created in casez such as this one.

I have update 0-9, and just started on A ... when I found that they also altered the Forum's URL, removing the number of the host server. They have been re-directing linkz, but now they insist that our URL references also be changed, and do not send the person on to what they are looking for. So I am doing a search & replace as the first thing when I start on a new letter ... couldn't proceed with A, because of the URL problem. I just re-uploaded A after the S&R, and am back at work on the Indicez.

I just discovered what is common to the Index entries to threads that are broken: they have 8 digit thread numbers beginning with 116 or 117; the good ones are only 3 or 4 digits. That will speed up the process of fixing the problems, since I can scan through an Index looking for the longer thread numbers, and have a window open here to retrieve the correct URL and paste it into the Index. That also means I just have to preview the associated Indices, and only open them for update if the link there fails. I may have this completed in just a few days, perhaps before next Sunday arrives. Just being able to avoid the step of checking the alphabetical link saves a considerable amount of time.

I'm so sorry to hear that, man. I hope it all gets sorted out.

You have your own webspace, right? Then, why aren't you using your own redirect linkz?

I have the numbered CLz and A through F completed. After some shut-eye and breakfast in the morning, I will take up G ... and whatever I can get done before my match. Then I will take up the project again after dinner. I want to release the CLz that have been submitted to me in the past nine days (since the last distribution) even without my own verification ... if the Designer has supplied me with a " PERFECT!" Statz Page image. Otherwise, the delay would be unacceptable, if I waited until the indicez problem was resolved. I anticipate at least four more days of work ... probably more like six, with my non-Gruntz activities. P.S. A (gentle?) reminder to me of your CL that is awaiting distribution would be helpful. This problem has me rather scatter-brained.

But if you had your own linkz gathered in e.g. one htaccess file, you could test and correct them without having to edit tons of forum postz.

I believe I have found what is in common with the thread errors: most (at least 90%) of the broken links are for CLz that were on page 2 of the graphics area; like the conversion routine stopped at the number of threads displayed on the first page. The exceptions appear to be threads that moved from page 2 to page 1 because of renewed posting(s) to the thread. (On page 2 during the conversion, then 'bumped' to page 1 by the new post.)
And I will distribute "Sweet Magic" and "Jebediah's Club" within the hour ... probably within minutes.

Chasing broken linkz to threadz, I discovered there are still several referencez to info within postz. I can place a translation script that will replace "info" with "info" to take care of the problem quickly ... but not permanently. The ProBoards Version5 update when (if?) I allow it, could remove my translation scriptz, and everything would be right back to [image] where there was a reference to "info". So when I work on Custom Levelz issued between 2002 and 2006, I try to scan through the postz to find and permanently fix those bad referencez.
I am currently working on CLz in "Trouble In The Tropicz" and am well into CLz starting with 'T' (A thru S already done) ... but only discovered the "info" problem with "The Rock III", so there are plenty of possible bad [image] referencez in Rocky Roadz, Gruntziclez and Trouble In The Tropicz in 2002 thru 2006 releasez. I do not plan on going back through those CL threadz ... instead sticking with fixing broken linkz, and only scanning threadz for CLz from the problem era.
So Global Moderatorz and Gaby may feel free to jump in and scan for (and fix!) any broken imagez throughout the Forum.

I am having serious trepidations about the following: "Important Notice to Forum Staff from ProBoards This message is only displayed to staff members of this forum." I'm broadcasting it to everyone.
"This is to notify you that this forum is scheduled to be upgraded to our new forum software, ProBoards v5, within the next few weeks.
If you need assistance with the upgrade, our support team is ready and willing to assist you. Please visit the ProBoards Support Forum for any help you need. Whether you need help with customizing the look of your forum or learning about the many great new features our forum software has to offer, please don't hesistate to ask.
ProBoards" I envision several problems, such as a possible repeat of thread re-numbering (and I am only slightly more than halfway through correcting the broken links from the last re-numbering!), and the loss of the current ability to have multiple backgrounds appropriate to many of the Board sections. The BETA board that I was able to experiment with either did not have the ability to have separate backgrounds for different Boards, or the ability was terribly obfuscated. Even if no new problems are introduced, there will be changes that will set all us back in our "learning curve" of navigating the Forum. It may be that we will find ProBoards 5 to be a giant step forward in accessibility ... and we will love the new features. But please be aware of the impending changes, and don't be shocked when you login one day to a totally different appearance of this Forum.

Wow, this new look of the forum is horrible. Much less clear than the previous one, and I have to concentrate to see where what I'm looking for is. And that's irreversible, right?

Yeah, it does look ugly. At the plus side you can at least see more posts on the recent post page by going through different pages. But I really miss the top of the main page where there was information about the most recent Gruntz level and stuff like that.

Yeah, it sure is horrible. What I mentioned in the second paragraph of my last post in this thread is the ONLY good thing about the new proboards designs, the rest looks horrible. It was so comfortable to see at the main page what the latest Gruntz level is, but I don't see that anymore. Well, the news bar is still there but the codes IN the news bar don't work anymore. So I can see YouTube is not the only site guilty of making bad changes. And I also somehow doubt this update was tested.

Worst 'feature' of Version 5 so far: changing UBBC scripting, adding HTML style [tbody] [/tbody] strings indiscriminately ... see Gaby's signature area for one bad example. And my attempt at fixing broken links in an announcement thread resulted in garbage ... because of said tbody insertions. At least, now I know what caused the problem (added [tbody]...[/tbody][/table] strings resulted in table strings being displayed along with the characters which were intended to be displayed.

Well, I can see the main page is back to what it used to be. And I'm happy about that. :-D
Not only that you also fixed the links.
Though I do miss no longer being able to see someone's country origin while reading their posts.
