I have a word that works (A sieve with fine meshes) but it's not an everyday-use word, and I can't play again. Can I whisper my word to someone else to say?

I'm not sure, but I think you may be adding too many letters at one time. What about Rule #6 - does it mean you can delete a letter w/o adding a letter, thus making a three-letter word, or add a letter w/o deleting a letter for a five-letter word?

Adding or deleting a letter (even a vowel) would still leave an unbalanced word. The only way to restore the word to balance would be to change a consonant to a vowel. Then a letter could be added or deleted. (I think you created a winner, Teri!)

There are two things wrong with that, Bjarni: 1 No definition of the word. 2 There were already three consonants and only one vowel, so a consonant needs to be replaced with a vowel. The "s", "l" or "t" needs to be changed to a vowel to make the next valid word.

Sorry, Bjarni. First, I don't think "selt" is a word, and second, if it is a word you didn't supply a dictionary definition of the word. GooRoo, rule clarification, please. One of the rulez stated that 3- or 5-letter words may only exist for one turn. Do I understand correctly that one may add or delete a letter from the last word played for a legitimate turn, and then the next player to play must return the word to its original length by adding or deleting a letter?

Sorry, selt is not a word, not even as a form of the word sell. English does not always work that way. I consulted an online dictionary and it came back with no entry for selt. Sorry, try again.

Since we're all totally confused by this game, I'll try: sit - to assume a position of rest in which the weight is largely supported by the buttocks, usually with the body vertical and the thighs horizontal Even your example of "love, move, movie, moxie" is incorrect according to the rules, since a vowel was added to "move" .. then a vowel, should have been removed from "movie". Time for a new (less confusing) game?

I think we should start a new game with the idea of "Change one letter each time". where the rules are:
You can add, subtract, or change letters, as long as you form a word, and :
1) you don't form a word with less than 3 letters or more than 5 letters, 2) a) form a 3-letter word or b) a word with more than one consonant and more than one vowel was made directly previous to your word or c) you make a word with more than one consonant and more than one vowel 3) You must change the root of a word if you are adding or deleting a letter. 4) You may not change the same letter that was changed in the direct previous word. 5) There must be at least two entries before you may play again, Indicate your change in color, Cannot return to a previous word in the chain, Include a dictionary definition.

Rather than adding a certain letter, I don't want to make GooRoo mad since he has strict forum rules, so I will add an e instead to make site, "The place where a structure or group of structures was, is, or is to be located"

No, for all our sakes, please don't mess with the forum rules. If you want to keep going I'll add
smite: to strike sharply, espicially w/ the hand or implement held in hand

While "Chain(ge a) Letter" was a cutesy appellation for the game, I think that "Evolution" (of rules, at least) is more appropriate. Since the idea for this game came to me overnight (while I was ... the subconcious at work), it was not fully matured when I posted. I like the idea of adapting the rules to make the game enjoyable and more importantly, understandable. You may want to consider taking things a step further, and rather than make it a competition, make it an exercise in cooperation. Example: Change "moth" to "silk" by changing a single letter at a time ... goal; least number of steps. Discussion welcome to achieve the goal, to a limit of two words from the current word. Still two posts by others before you are allowed to post again. moth mot e mo le m ile mil k silk

I think it would be better just as an excercise to see how long we can keep it going, rather than a competition.

That sounds good ... try to make your new word such that someone else can more easily make another word following the rules. Cooperation, rather than competition, as I said ... but carried even further. Instead of trying to reach a certain word in the fewest number of steps, try to make the longest possible chain of words without repeating. Someone kick it off!
