That's right! If all goes well, I should have a new version of Gruntz available for download by about noon tomorrow (February 4 th, 2004 (Pacific Standard Time))!! It will have the additional 7 Secret Levelz in it, so you can all have fun( ) re-playing Standard Levelz, looking for that Secret Level trigger. I would strongly recommend that anyone deciding to install V1.11 back up your Gruntz.rez file before downloading, as the patch is a replacement to your Gruntz.rez. I do not want to send this out via e-mail, because someone might just click on the attachment, and lose V1.01 (or 1.10) ... and if anything were to go wrong (go wrong, go wrong ) I don't want to feel like I have a great big target painted on me. I will test it out with one Stage of every Quest to make sure I don't destroy anything ... but there's this guy named Murphy ... Please do not post a reply to this thread until you see that there is a link to download Version 1.11.

You may want to begin searching for those Secret Level Triggerz, so when you download Version 1.11 (that's a combination of 1.10 and 1.01, with Secret Levelz added) you know where to go, and what to have when you get there. Then you can dive into a Secret Level as soon as you have installed the new .rez file.

I have assembled a working Gruntz.rez with the seven additional Secret Levelz in it, but apparently associating Secret Levelz with the SecretLevelTrigger(z) is not as obvious as it seemed. I only know of two SecretLevelTriggerz, in "The Giant Rock" (which already has a SL associated with it) and one other. Trying to get into the SL did not work! My Grunt merely disappeared into a Wormhole, never to return ... and the Secret Level did not open up. So it will take considerably more time than I anticipated to get the seven additional SLz working. Sorry.

Chrystien (The Kirby) provided me with some information based upon his own experimentz that may allow me to put the additional 7 Secret Levelz into the Gruntz112.rez file. Unlike the patch that created V1.01, I will not be able to modify the REZ file to display a new version. But The Kirby thinkz he found the formula for naming Secret Levelz so that they would be automatically loaded when a solver meetz the requirementz (by cheating!) to enter one. I have about two hourz to experiment with it this afternoon.
Wish me luck!

I have linked in the seven additional Secret Levelz, and SAVEd it as Gruntz112.rez. Then I re-named Gruntz.rez as Gruntz101.rez (to have as a back-up) and re-named Gruntz112.rez as Gruntz.rez. I have been playing that way for a couple of dayz now, and everything seemz to work fine. Now, what is needed, is for Gruntzerz to locate the SecretLevelTrigger in those Standard Levelz which contain one, and have someone take the time to test the new Gruntz.rez file.
If you step forward to do this, remember to either copy your Gruntz.rez file to a back-up folder, or re-name it before SAVEing the new version.

GooRoo you don't seem to have mentioned anywhere where the download actually is I think GooRoo is wanting (and waiting) for someone to beta test his "patch" before he begins widespread distribution to make sure that it actually works (I have no doubt that it does) and no hidden surprises. IIRC, when Monolith released the 1.01 patch, there were some folks who had a devil of a time trying to get it to work and Kevin had work with them individually to resolve their problems. I would volunteer to beta test it as I do know where one of the secret triggers is, but I just recently "upgraded" to a new machine and I'm still trying to set it up and retrieve files off the old drive. As of right now, I can't even run Gruntz in 1024x768 mode which is my preferred resolution . It'll run in 800x600 mode but not in 1024x768. But that's another topic.

I would certainly like to beta-test the new patch, but I'm kind of curious as to how you're going to distribute it. Not as the original rez (I hope.)

I would certainly like to beta-test the new patch, but I'm kind of curious as to how you're going to distribute it. Not as the original rez (I hope.) I checked into my usage of allowed space at my web host, and discovered that there is plenty of leeway to upload the Gruntz.rez file without exceeding my limit. So I will do just that ... upload it here, where it may be downloaded. I will place the link to the download in the Secret Levelz Board (makez sense, doesn't it) and make the password available to the BETA tester(z). Of course, all of the Global Moderatorz and myself also alwayz have access to that Board, so are automatically eligible to be testerz. Each individual Secret Level thread should have the discoverer posting the requirementz and location of the SecretLevelTrigger so that otherz may try their hand at solving it. Edit: I have a relatively fast DSL connection, so can only post the amount of time it takez me to upload the file; otherz with faster (or slower) Internet connectionz will have to provide commentz about download timez for prospective downloaderz. I will update this post with such download timez reported to me. DSL: 0 hourz:30 minutez:0 secondz (estimated ... I was away from the computer when the upload ended)

I would like to play it whenever (I don't mind waiting) but don't want to spoil the levels for myself by sneaking into that board So I will probably just wait for it to be cleared.

Can I beta-test this patch ? Goo Roo, you can send it to me viva email. Also provide me with some hintz on where to get started (4 levelz per world, with one secret level per world, with no hintz on the secretz' where-aboutz, and having to cheat in about 50 different codez makez a secret level near impossible to find ).

Can I beta-test this patch ? Goo Roo, you can send it to me viva email. It is over 70MB ... far too large for (my) e-mail! (I have a 5MB attachment limit.) If my web host is still working (even though I cannot login to do maintenance!), the REZ file may be downloaded, though. I have to leave for a match now, so cannot comment further.

Where may I download it? Note: You can put a download link that everyone can reach, but put a "use at your own risk, patch is not yet fully tested. Recommended that a back-up copy of gruntz is installed." message.

I'm confused. What version are you making??? The version I have is called 1.11 so is it just a patch to "upgrade" gruntz to this version. If not, perhaps you should rename it, so noone else with the real 1.11 is confused.

At the time this thread was begun, I had no knowledge of the existence of a "Version 1.11", so named the thread that. The file is named "GRUNTZ112.REZ".

So, er... huh? You finally got it working? Apparently not ... the one person testing it sayz that he could not get to the Secret Level. The screen flashed, but the Secret Level was not opened, and the Grunt was not transported anywhere useful.
