Subject: Gruntz game licensing
I am the Administrator of "GooRoo's Gruntz Forum", and designer of about 30 Gruntz Custom Levelz.
Several people have contacted me about acquiring Gruntz for themselves, and stating how they were unable to buy the CD from Monolith Productions, Inc. RealOneArcade has a downloadable version of the game without the movies. That seems to be the only way anyone can begin to enjoy this game. I would like to change that.
What I would like to do is enter some sort of licensing agreement whereby I could duplicate the Gruntz CD, as I have for my own back-up, and sell same to interested people. I am not interested in making profits from such activities, only in making the game available once again. The number of sales would be in the tens, not in the thousands, so any profit would be very small, at any rate. I would not be able to supply any certificates of authenticity, or such, without assistance from MPI. I would only be able to ship slimline CDs in a bubble pack, and have determined that U.S. postage would run about $2.35. Mailers in the quantities I would use would cost about $1.25 each, and the CDs themselves about $.50. Once begun, the task of copying a CD would be negligible in cost, since other things could be done while the process was taking place.
Is it possible to reach some sort of an agreement that will give me the legal right to produce CDs to satisfy requests, as they are received? Monolith could have the bulk of the receipts after recovering actual cost. If MPI packaging were somehow available, that would be nice. I would be willing to purchase such packaging in lots as large as 50, even though I doubt there would be that many actual sales.
The Gruntzer community has produced about 130 Custom Levelz for the game, and there are about 40 active Gruntzerz still eager to receive new Custom Levelz as they are designed. There have only been a handful of people requesting information about buying Gruntz, but if there were a source for the game, with the small bit of advertising I could do on my Forum, there might be more inquiring about purchasing it. Would you please do whatever you can to make it possible for new people to discover the game?
