Welcome to GooRoo's Gruntz Forum, kaboomz! I'm sorry that I have been a bit remiss in my duties as moderator of this particular forum in welcoming new members. I've been watching your progress through the game (by way of the posts you've made in the Standard Levels forum); keep plugging away at it. We all struggled a bit at times in some of these levels, and got a bit stumped at others. So we've been where you're at and we're more than happy to help when you do get stuck. And when you're done with the standard levels, we've got a lot more levels for you to dive into.

Welcome aboard! Glad you came over from the Monolith forum. Sorry that I didn't welcome you into the community sooner. Hope you're enjoying the many custom levels. And please do consider trying your hand at making a level. The editor really is not as hard as it looks.

It looks like I may be dead in the water on this issue. It seems that WinRezLT Studio uses elements from WindowsME/2000/XP and cannot be run on machines that are running Win95/98, which mine is running. At least not until BlackAngel Software comes out with the update they say they are working on to address that issue.

That is undoubtedly the same site I went to first, via Google. Great minds think alike or what? That is exactly what I did. Same here. The inability of a custom level maker to introduce "Help" books into their levels is the one bug in the editor that strikes me. If I don't miss my guess, the level editor that we possess is nothing more than a modified type of WinRez or Lithrez program that allows us to extract certain .rez files from the game engine (tiles and objects), modify them or arrange them as we wish, then drop them back into the game in the form of a .wwd file, which I think is a form of a .dat file. However, during the creation of the Level Editor, an error was introduced somehow that paired the image of a Help book with a megaphone when a megaphone was used as a covered powerup. Perhaps a patch could be made to drop into the editor to fix this bug? That's all the patch for the original game was--a modification of the game's .rez file. That's exactly where those bugs exist. They probably could be fixed (I mean, a grunt is not supposed to run through geometries, right?), but it is probably not worth the time or effort to worry about. Those "bugs" can either be worked around (don't place the ExitTrigger object on the perimeter of your map) or add a surprising gameplay element to the game (anyone remember "Bombz Away!?"). That would certainly be great if we could do that.

I actually went to two sites. One that had an in-depth tutorial on making new worlds for AvP2, utilizing Lithrez. The other offered Winrez LT Studio for download. It is freeware. There is also a Winrez Pro that is available for a mere $10 USD. I downloaded Winrez LT Studio, if nothing more than to play with it a little bit. I'd like to fix, if possible, a couple of the bugs that we've run across in the editor. But, alas, I haven't been able to get the program to start (yet!).

Well, I found a program named "Lithrez", but have been unable to download it. The site requires registration, and $6.95 to register. There are also two programs named ")Edit" and "MEdit" that are part of the suggested 'package'. The site appears to be a Monolith web site, with Claw and Shogo(?) advertisements. I don't have the time tonight to pursue it, but will try again tomorrow afternoon. Where did you find it? I found a site that deals with Lithrez, primarily from Monolith's "Alien vs Predator2" perspective. I'm wondering if Lithrez will work with Gruntz.

Hi, Pat! I'm glad you found us. Gruntz is definitely an addictive game, and thanks to the level editor, has more livez than a cat. So once you finish the Standard levelz, you won't have to go through Gruntz withdrawal. And there are more custom levelz coming. And speaking of catz, I too, like you, share my life with several of the feline persuasion.

Congratulations on your little bundle of joy! Enjoy him while he's this age. They grow up so fast. I can't believe that mine are nearly all teenagers (two are teens, the other is a little more than six months from that designation ). Welcome!

Lurk all you want, Onestar, but don't be afraid to participate. We don't bite. If you can find a copy of Gruntz or download it from RealArcade, play it and you'll learn why we have a lot of fun around here.

Heh, heh, heh! He better. Since he's my son and lives in my house and is not quite age of majority yet, he still must do what I tell him to do. Not only that, but since we home-school our children, I can make it an assignment!

I live in the Southeastern US at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains with my wife, 3 kids, a house full of cats, and a pet possum named Pete. Actually Pete's not really a pet. He just comes by on a regular basis to dine on kitty kibble and any food scraps we put out.
I have worked for the last 15 years for what is now the second largest automotive aftermarket parts retailer in the nation and also have worked for the past eight years as a newspaper carrier for our local daily paper.
Where did I come up with a username like Fried Gruntzaholic? Well the second part of the name is easy. This game is addictive. And like GooRoo's sigtag says, there's no cure. The first part of the name comes from "frying" my brain trying to solve this game's devious puzzlez.
I discovered Gruntz at least two years ago (it was just before the patch came out) when my wife downloaded the demo. The demo sat on her computer for a long period of time before anyone had the gumption to try it out. But after trying the Battlez out, I was hooked. My wife ordered the full version for me and I've been playing ever since. I have tried to learn about every facet of this great game, both gameplay and level-building, so that I can help others in the way that I was helped.
I hope in the near future to be able to release some custom levels of my own. I currently have a number of levels in some phase of existence. I just have to get the stick-to-it-iveness that is necessary to sit down and build one and see it through to the end.
