The Gruntz CD-ROM has some errors on it that are fixed with a patch provided by Monolith Productions, Inc. This patch will upgrade your Gruntz game to Version 1.01 (893KB). Here are the version differences. Those who have downloaded Gruntz from RealArcade do not need this patch... it has already been applied to your executable version, which I believe displays as Version 1.10. The standard screen resolution for Gruntz is 640 X 480. There are some patchez that came out for Windows XP (but seem to be usable on ME, 2000, etc.). I have two varieties available now for download; they are termed 'registrations' (.reg file extension suffix): and this is the ReadMe file (634B) for using the screen resolution patchez. If you want all three items (both screen resolution patches and the ReadMe), click here for the self-extracting ZIPped file (89KB).

It remains 'permanent' only so long as you do not choose to play a Custom Level of a size "too small" for your screen resolution. Gamer created a very nice little (literally) Custom Level named "Move off the Island" that reverts my 1024X768 screen resolution back to 800X600 (or maybe it is 600X480!), so that I have to re-register the patch in order to return to the larger display. It is a hassle that I am sure Kevin would avoid if he ever had the rights and opportunity to create a "Gruntz 2".

every now and then I have to renew the screen resolution because the standard screen resolution comes back... is it possible to make it permanent ? Somehow (before my hard drive crashed ) I could change the resolution without reregistering it. Anyone else that has done this?

The reason why you can't download the file, it is because the Web Host is down. What I suggest you is to go on Paul's Gruntz Page to download it (it comez in a Self-Extracting Zipped File, so you won't have any trouble installing it).

Sorry for not being clear enough, I have already downloaded the patch (version 4.11.0.0) from the Gruntz website, just can't install it (Patch error - Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No Update done as the file contents do not match) is the message I keep getting, any ideas?
Thanks

That soundz as if the version of Gruntz that you have is not Version 1.0 ... maybe the patch has already been applied on your Gruntz, and the version already showz V1.01?

I have checked and the version is 1.0, I can play the game ok but the errors are there, i.e there is no warp in "With four Gruntz you can..."

Do you have Windows XP? There are two patches in "Paul's" Forum. One for the resolution and one for Windows XP. Did you install them both? I think you need to.

I'm not very smart with computers, but I've had my fair share of problems so I've been through a lot of fixes. I'm glad I could help you.

The only way to play your Gruntz without the CD is to have the RealArcade version... or, if you try, it may be possible if you copy the contentz of the CD and paste on the Gruntz folder... I'd never try it but it could work!

I'd never try it but it could work! Another way to do this is to copy the entire contentz of the CD to C:\GruntzCD and install from there. The game will think that this is the CD.

thanx for the help SwordGrunt. And i still cant get file "Gruntz1024.reg" Unfortunately, on some computers with XP (mine included) the Gruntz1024 patch will not work. Why I do not know. Probably due to the brand of video card installed. The good news (I think) is that the 800 x 600 patch will probably work for you; it did for me.

Try resetting your desktop to 1024 and see it that helps. It did mine.

Try resetting your desktop to 1024 and see it that helps. It did mine. Mine was already set at 1024 x 768 and it did not help. When I try to run the 1024 patch, the game will act as though it is going to start but then just closes. But it runs fine with the 800 patch.
