It seems that my device drivers for my two CD/DVD drives are corrupt ... and my efforts to acquire up-to-date working device drivers have been frustrated on all fronts! I paid (via PayPal) $39.90 for a service to update my device drivers, and the stupid program won't do a thing for me ... it keeps saying "Register" in order to fix the problems ... or presenting me with "Scan now" ... but does not offer me any option to download the required drivers. So I am unable to do anything with Gruntz for the foreseeable future ... until my computer once again has working CD/DVD drives. (Neither drive even shows up when I open the "My Computer" window.)

Have you tried creating Visual Drive? If your CD/DVD drive is broken, it may fix your problems with it. Provisionally. Only thing you must have then, is Gruntz CD image file. Currently I'm using Visual Devices instead of classic drive most of the time and I have created Gruntz image file.
Well ... it may be caused by some problems with "bodily issues", not drivers you have to install. I mean, for example some cables are disconnected etc. or, at worst, it may be damaged and you have to buy new CD/DVD drive and replace the old one.

Neither my internal CD/DVD drive nor the external one are working. The Device Driver says that the CD/DVD driver is 'corrupt' (error 39). The program that is supposed to deal with missing and out-of-date drivers does not recognize any problem. The device driver is current (not missing) ... just corrupted. I have not been able to locate an on-line (downloadable) replacement ... so far.

Try reinstalling the drivers. Open Device Manager, select the DVD drives and press Delete. Then reboot. If it doesn't work, well, we'll get to that later.

All that happens is the same corrupt driver is re-installed. I need to be able to download a valid copy of the driver as a replacement for the one that gets 'refreshed' ... need to over-write the corrupted device driver ... whereever Microsoft has hidden it.

Try System Restore back to whenever it was working.
What DVD drive is it?

HL-DT-ST-DVD-RAM GH22LP20 USB Device
HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GMA-4020B
The external drive is LightScribe enabled, the internal is an older read/write drive. Both use the exact same device driver ... so both are "out to lunch".

Tomalla Can you provide me (via a PMed link) with the meanz to download Visual Drive (or is it Virtual Drive?) complete with the Gruntz CD-ROM? Since I have no working CD/DVD drive at this time, there is no way for me to create a virtual Gruntz 'CD' by reading my own CD into the computer. And such a download link is not legal ... for anyone not already a legal owner of Gruntz, so it cannot be made public.
