Today I began working on the inventory of my Star Wars paperback books ... well over a hundred bookz that I already possess, and dozenz more (it seemz!) that have been published while I have been preoccupied with other thingz. For the next few dayz, most of the entriez will be merely place-holderz, identifying the book titlez that I know exist. As time goez on, the inventory will be updated to include the namez of the authorz, published date, International System (of) Book Numbering identifcation code ... and the onez I don't have (marked NEED). Until every entry containz author namez and publishing date, etc., it should be considered incomplete. I am using the Forum's web host as a back-up as far physically removed as possible from my home, so that a local catastrophe will not put me back to "square one". But it will also serve as a meanz for generous Gruntzerz to show whatever appreciation they may have for the existence of this Forum, by locating a missing item, purchasing it, and offering it to me for the purchase price plus postage. (I have pretty much exhausted the local sourcez for these bookz.)
As with my Star Trek collection, this effort is necessary because my desktop computer (which contained my inventory only on its hard drive) refused to boot up after a local power failure. Next month I will take it to the local personal computer guruz two milez away to see what can be done to repair it ... only so that I may complete the migration from that computer to my notebook computer. (And some people wonder why I elect bound paper bookz, instead of other media, such as CD-ROMz. How many 8-track tapez do you Gruntzer still use? ) I spent a little over $13 (including tax) for a 2GB SD card that is not much bigger than a postage stamp! The last company computer stored 588MB and was the size of a home dishwashing machine ... and cost thousandz of dollarz! So I am diversifying my storage media, adding the newest (and usually smallest) new typez that work with my computer ... and are removable/portable ... and copying what I consider to be "important stuff" onto the new media ASAP. Hopefully, when (if?) I buy a new computer, it will support the ancient media (like an SD card) as well as what is the newest and hottest thing available ... and I won't have to ever start over again.
