I took my wife to the local hospital emergency room Sunday afternoon, because she was having trouble breathing. After four+ hours there, a doctor made the diagnosis of "Intrinsic (aka 'Adult onset') Asthma", and she was assisted with a 'breathing treatment' that greatly relieved her difficulty. The treatment made a change from 88% efficiency to almost 100% (which didn't last, unfortunately), so they really helped.
I just wanted to let everyone know about this in case I am not very active on the Forum for some length of time. I will try to be as active as possible, but absences such as this one of some 30 hours may re-occur. With Bea, FriedGruntzaholic, Gamer and IdleAl around, there should not be any problems ... there just may not be as many quick solutions as when I am able to be on-line almost all of my waking hours. (I usually remain signed on all day long, and drop by the computer from time-to-time and hit the 'refresh'' button to see if there is anything to do.)

I can certainly empathize with you, GooRoo. My wife, mother, and eldest son all have asthma, and all have developed it fairly recently. You can be certain that we will hold the Fort here and keep the DisGruntled at bay. Now where did I leave that sponge gun? And where'z my Beach Ball?

Thank you, all. The inhaler from the pharmacy seems to be helping considerably, just as the breathing treament at the emergency room helped relieve her stress. Simply knowing what the problem is, and that it can be treated made a big difference. You see, the asthma is made worse by stress, and the stress of not knowing what was going on made it worse. Also, the congested feeling led her to use decongestants, and the ER doctor said that was one of the worst things one can do when suffering with asthma, since it affects the lungs by hardening material in them. The combination of treatment and information has helped her dramatically.
Thanks again, Gruntzerz!!!

My mom had emphysema and was on a number of inhalers as well as a nebulizer 4 times a day. Although Medicare paid for her medication on the nebulizer, they wouldn't cover the inhalers. Try and get as many SAMPLES as you can. They don't come cheap.

My son has had asthma since childhood, and I remember how the stress of not knowing what to do would worsen the situation. Eventually we discovered that he was allergic to molds. I hope you will learn what triggers your wife's. I will keep both of you in my prayers.

My wife is doing much better now. She has an inhaler to use whenever she has a problem breathing, and goes sometimes several days without having to use it.
I am finally over my bronchial woes, and recovering my strength. I am also catching up on all of those things that I would normally have done (but couldn't) during the last two months. By tomorrow afternoon (Monday, February 28th) I should be back in trying to catch up on the Gruntzy thingz I have let slide during my illness. I would have started on Gruntz thingz yesterday, if there weren't things scheduled (like church and square dancing) with a higher priority. I have a couple of things scheduled in the morning, but should be back home a little before noon (PST) and will begin my attempt to pick up where I left off on Gruntz tasks then.

I waited for about a year while I developed the level; I can wait another week I am happy you are better and aren't depressed about Gaby's Bronchial woes
