Hey guys, it's me - Kevin - original designer/creator of Gruntz from the old Monolith days back in '99. It's so cool to see that there's still a community playing the game and that custom levels are *still* being created! I work at Microsoft now, heading up the game design and creative direction for the Microsoft Casual Games studio (I created the new Microsoft Solitaire on Windows 10, Mahjong, Jigsaw, Minesweeper, and a handful of other casual games) I also noticed that some folks are having problems playing Gruntz on Windows 10. Just curious if there's been any resolution to make it fully playable on Win10? I haven't tried it on W10 specifically, but I do recall being able to play on Windows 7 - which should be similar for being able to run older legacy games. Nice 'seeing' you all again. Hope everyone is still having fun! Kevin.

Hope everyone is still having fun! Kevin. Is there any chance that you remember anything about Gruntz, specifically how the so-called "Secret Levelz" should be named? Years ago several of us created candidate "Secret Levelz", but I was never able to link them in to the Stage 1 Questz in each graphics area from Gruntziclez through Gruntz In Space. If we knew exactly how to name and add to the REZ file, we could extend the basic package. There is a Secret Level trigger for every one of the 32 original Questz, but only Rocky Roadz Stage 1 (The Guant Rock) was provided a Secret Level with a working trigger.
As far as Gruntz under Windows 10, small maps with at least one CheckPoint Switch may be played. Strange things, such as reversion to monochrome (Red, Green and/or Blue based) and dimension limits upon launch and non-working keyboard shortcuts are annoying, but frequently resolved by an exit to Windows and return.
Personally, I am hampered by a keyboard that has the Function Keys (F5 and F8 the most important ones) require a second key to operate, keyed alone they control things of little use, such as keyboard lights and audio volume increase.

It's nice to see you, man. The game you created is fantastic. It's one of my favorite video games of all time. That's why I love being part of this wonderful community.
The game is still relevant 17 years later, and let me tell you it deserves it since it's really that good.

Hi Kevin I play the game from the start when it was released I (we)can not play it longer in Windows 10. So I hope they can make a patch so we can played in windows 10 (or update it to win 10). Thanks

Sorry for the delayed reply guys. Regarding Windows 10 -- try this: Right click the Gruntz executable and select properties. Then click the compatibility tab and try Windows 7 compatibility. Maybe that will help? As for the secret levels I remember putting a trigger in each level but can't remember the naming What was the name of the secret level for rocky roadz 1?

And the rabid Gruntzerz determined what was required (and where!) for every one of those SecretLevelTriggerz ... and (somewhere) I have that information available ... and should update the Secret Levelz page on GooRoo's Gruntz - The Journey Home .
