It is a heart-wrenching news for sure, but I understand your decision.
I will begin updating my personal files backup soon. It's not suitable to replace the web host, it's just to make sure that nothing gets lost during the migration.

Sorry, I do not fully understand what GoDaddy is and what it is used for. I do not want to have this forum and its surrounding getting lost -- what are we talking about specifically?

GoDaddy is a domain registrar and web hosting company that manages our gooroosgruntz.info site, which hosts resources used on the forum such as the Gruntz Level Editor Manual and Custom Levels. Our current plan is relatively expensive, covering various features that are not needed for the site, while at the same time lacking an easy SSL certificate solution, so we are looking for a company with a better deal to store our files.

After some digging I have a few proposals for the new host: A2 Hosting, GreenGeeks, and Dreamhost. Disclaimer: I can only recommend these based on reviews seen online (but each one seems great). They provide roughly the same services, for a similar price, and each one provides SSL certificates for free. Quick storage and price comparison: A2 Hosting: 12 USD, 100GB storage GreenGeeks: 12 USD, 50GB storage Dreamhost: 8 USD, 50GB storage The thing is, price-wise and storage-wise it doesn't really matter, each one provides much more than enough for the site's needs. What could be a interesting though is for example GreenGeeks' service, they claim to match our usage in reneweable energy and plant trees as well. Ultimately, the future host is up to discussion, and I encourage everyone to check out these three. www.greengeeks.com/web-hostingwww.dreamhost.com/hosting/shared/#comparison-planswww.a2hosting.com/web-hosting/

As anyone can plainly see, swietymiki has provided a solution that restores the designed look of this discussion forum.
A change in web host would still be advisable, as GoDaddy (under the new owners) is no longer very helpful, and their focus is on $ale$, not customers.
I am 81 years old, and not as active as I once was in Gruntz, and still think it is time for some "new blood" to take over as owner/administrator of this forum and its associated supporting web host, etc. I am quite willing to be "admin emeritus" and support things, especially things related to HTML.

I know let swiet take over. I think it's perfect, he knows a lot about how this stuff works, and has done a lot for the Gruntz community for all these years.

So we aren't talking about this forum (as hosted by proboards?) but about - the domain gooroosgruntz.info - a place to store files (no server side scripts), reachable by that domain ? .info domains are comparatively expensive (with Domainfactory (German company), 2.79€ per month after the 0.39€ promo time). In comparison, a .com domain would be 1.99€ per month and .de even .99€ per month, just to name a few examples. How much space do those files need? There is another company, called Uberspace, also German uberspace.de/en/, that offers 10 GB for pay-as-you-wish, starting with 5€ per month.

swietymiki has relieved one problem, with a free SSL which restored the 's' (secure) to our URLs, so (for instance) BOOM! works once again.
