I just pulled up the forum to enter this and what'a you know. GooRoo had also decided to do a level in the "Honey, I Shrunk" format. So there will be two. Do you ever wonder how many germs are hanging around on you kitchen counters, much less on the floor? Well, that's what I was thinking about one night as I was cleaning up the kitchen. Of course, my brain being what it is, I decided germs could look a lot like little gruntz. And so my Gruntz are off to fight all the germy, enemy Gruntz in this kitchen mockup. I have no idea when it'll be done, but I'm hoping that those of you who want more "action" will be happy with it.

I'm about 3/4 done now, but I still need lots of germs and I'm having a problem. The game has been crashing, saying I can't add gruntz that have been in the game from the beginning. I think I figured it out though, I guess you can't put more than 15 memberz on any team, whether they're friendliez or enemiez. Am I right?? Now I have to decide whose on what team. I'm too tired tonight, but with any luck I'll be finishing in the next week.

I believe I increased the size of my bald spot when that happened to me the first time. You are absolutley correct ... maximum of fifteen Gruntz on any team, thus a maximum of 60 Gruntz in a Questz Custom Level. In battlez, Gruntz are created (by the computer) continuously, and the computer opponentz drop them into the game as soon as there is an empty slot. (We humanz usually forget about the Gruntz in the oven until we need one somewhere, so the oddz are frequently greater than three to one. ) In Questz, the designer can provide for additional Gruntz for the SOLVER via the GooberStraw. But there is no way to add more opponentz, as the solver turnz enemy Gruntz into Goo Puddlez. So we may only have 45 enemy Gruntz, total, to inconvenience the solver.

I'm almost done but I have a couple of questions: 1. Has anyone ever gotten those cursez to work? I went into the 'Battlez' gamez and stepped on a bunch of them but nothing ever happened. Likewise when I tried to use one in this level. So far the only way I can get one to work is through the cheat code. Is there a secret? 2. How do you make the return on a red warp deposit you somewhere different than where you entered the warp? I think I've seen this somewhere but I can't remember what level. (Old age is not for wimps!) There are so many brilliant designers out there, surely one of you knows. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. PS to Gaby: Not necessarily!

Check out Gamer's "Bombz Away!" for an example of how to logically accomplish what you want to do ... even though it is not possible. He placed an enemy Grunt on the tile that became the return Red Warp, and provided a Blue Wormhole for his own Grunt to use.

Likewise when I tried to use one in this level. So far the only way I can get one to work is through the cheat code. Is there a secret? In a Human Player vs. 3 Computer players Battlez scenario, the cursez only work if a computer player'z grunt picks up the curse. Otherwise they have no effect if one of your gruntz picks them up, the lone exception being the Crazy Colorz curse where the effect is minimal. I'm not sure cursez can be used in a Questz level. One possible way to get it to work is to place the curse where an enemy grunt would be sure to walk over it and pick it up. But I'm not sure that enemy gruntz can pick up power-upz like cursez in Questz levels like they can in Battlez. You could try it and see.

Thank you GooRoo and Fried for answering. Good idea GooRoo but there wouldn't be enough room to do what you suggested. I did come up with an alternate solution. Fried, I think you're right. Curses just don't work in Quest levels. I set one where the enemy would have to step on it and he doesn't pick it up. Oh well, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been frustrated by this game. I can envision so many innovative things only to find that they are impossible to execute.

Well, I think it's ready to be alpha tested. I will send it to a friend for feed back and then on to GooRoo in a day or so. Are you ready, Ed? There a few things, voices and those dratted sounds, but the basic game is ready, I hope. Won't be long now.

I am currently 'stuck' on my sub-puzzle. I probably need a break from it, to let my 'hind brain' work on it for a while. So another CL to test could well be that break. I have a relatively free day tomorrow (Thursday) and a chopped-up day Friday. Saturday my daughter is a performer in the church Christmas skit, so I will be doing little in Gruntz that day. So Monday is probably my next good day for testing.

That will be perfect timing, as that's probably the day it will get sent to you. (Too many things to do right now!) Enjoy your daughter's performance and have a wonderful Christmas celebrating the birth of our Lord.

I have had some problemz in testing "Germ Warfare", mainly the Gruntz game exitting when I try to scroll the screen right/left/up/down quickly. Bonnie sent me a new version, and (so far) that has been behaving. But now I have had other demandz on my time ... and a new Custom Level from a new designer that I was able to test quickly and release. Now it is back to work on "Germ Warfare" ... right after lunch. I expect to be releasing it to Gruntz Fanz and make it available for download within the next six hourz.

Well, I obviously solved several partz of this CL quite differently than the designer intended, because I ended up with seven Gruntz, when only three are necessary. (I believe I only lost the Goo from five 'germz' ... two unreachable, and three with no GooberStraw available to suck up the Goo.) I know that I solved it differently, because my solution took 68+ minutez, and Oldone provided me with a "PERFECT!" Statz Page screen grab that took only 42 minutez and 16 secondz!
I have uploaded the CL to my web host, so the download link workz right now. After I click on "Post Reply", I will be sending it out to all of the people who are on the "Gruntz Fanz" address list. So check your inboxez!
P.S. There is still a problem with enemy Gruntz running into the top edge of the map, so make sure those Hit & Run Gruntz stay away from the edgez. (And SAVE often!)

I'm so sorry you had so many problems GooRoo. I know that there are always problems around the edges, and I guess if I had thought of how someone else would handle at least one of the situations, I might have done it differently. But when I'm designing, I get tunnel vision. I see the plan I have in mind and that's all. Maybe a good lesson for all of us to learn would be to always put a safe edge around the level.

While that is a waste of tilez, it seemz to be good insurance against unexpected resultz of Grunt (or solver) action. If a Grunt cannot reach a tile where either X or Y are 0, or X or Y are maximum valuez, there cannot be any situationz where a Rolling Rock doez no harm to a Grunt, et cetera. It is an unfortunate flaw in Gruntz, but one that at least has a 'work-around' to avoid the flaw. I think I have been more fortunate than foreseeing, in that (so far) only "Frijid Frolicz" has suffered that fate. (Perhapz becasue so many of my recent CLz have had a Rolling Rock around the outside edge. )
