I thought I would post some new information here, as there's been an increasing number of people reporting a certain issue with dgVoodoo in recent years. The usual description of the problem is that large white bars are displayed in the menu instead of text and on the side panel of the game. Pink artifacts may also be visible in the game around various objects. For a long time we had trouble finding a solution, but finally one of the users of our Discord server managed to fix it by messing around with dgVoodoo settings. Apparently the "Bilinear blit stretch" and "Apply Phong shading when possible" settings in the DirectX tab are causing the issue. Here are the full settings that eliminate the problem: The Glide settings tab is only shown for completeness, as Gruntz uses DirectX instead of Glide so it should not have any effect on the software. Certain options such as "Config folder / Running instance" might be different on different computers because this location corresponds to your Gruntz installation directory.

Here's a link to a couple of new tiles designed for the "High Rollerz" area: Google Drive. We also discussed the possibility of creating an EyeCandy copy of the golden plate, so that new custom patterns may be created by designers. Similar work can be done for other tilesets that have such tile features, for example the cracks in "Honey, I Shrunk The Gruntz". On the topic of the firewall program, maybe there's a way to add some kind of exception to its ruleset, so that the programs you've been using do not get blocked?

Thanks for visiting! It's a very interesting piece of information about the yo-yo. I wonder if it was similar to the toy available in the game?

I counted 89 Questz in the Gruntz in Space Index, which includes 88 threads in the Gruntz in Space board and 1 thread in the Frustrating board. So it appears that all index entries are matched with their respective level threads there. It's only the count at the top of the index page that is incorrect.

Ah, you went to the original Monolith site. I thought you'd found them somewhere on that Gruntz Calcon site from the first post.
Those are all screenshots from the Standard Levels, although most of them (six) are from Battlez maps. The remaining three seem to be Questz, Stage 4 of their respective worlds.

Where did you find the screenshots? I don't seem to be able to locate any on that site.

Once you get the game files on your PC, you will be able to start the game but it's probably going to be running so slowly that it's going to be unplayable. There's a couple of different ways to fix that, explained in the List of Utilities under "Tutorials" and then "Making Gruntz run smoothly...". Using a Virtual Machine should always fix the problems but configuring it might be more time consuming than the other workarounds. The other options generally involve replacing Gruntz's DDraw.dll file (graphics library), are very quick to do, but seem to not work for everyone. DgVoodoo is probably the most popular one, so you might want to try it in the first place.

Hello and welcome back. I believe the shortcut you're asking for is CTRL + 1-9. Then press the number of the group to select it.

It was in the Editor member on CoveredPowerUp that a Toy (or Megaphone) inside one would never work. Are you referring to a Toy Box? Yeah, that one does not seem to work well with logics such as CoveredPowerup, although a Toy Box can usually just be swapped for a normal Toy item. It also shows that even the designer never bothered getting to that point in testing, so you must be doing a very good job at solving the level.

I think I'll have time to have a go at it sometime after Christmas. Might also throw in some ideas on how to utilize the remaining empty space.

I downloaded three maps (they all would fill in gaps I have noted), and cannot qualify the Battle, and am positive that "Impossible Mission" is truly impossible (no way to reach the King). I really want to see this one completed!!! Oh, I'd tried that level out at some point as well, but I was completely stumped. It is possible that the level was playable at some point but a later change made it impossible. But after 15 years even the original designer wouldn't remember that.

The maps that we decided to only make available for download from Discord meet one of the following criteria: - The map is a work-in-progress or proof-of-concept
- The map needs extensive changes to be done by the original designer to eliminate unintended solutions or other issues
- It's a Quest and the map is frustratingly difficult to complete
- It's a Battle and the AI cannot conquer forts, therefore posing no threat to a human player
Usually it was a conscious decision to not share these maps on the forum before they're brought up to prevailing standards. But with time and effort, some of these maps could be finished and officially released.

Nope ... several of his walk-throughs were lost due to the use of 'free' hosting ... and my failure to capture them and store them on the paid-for(!) web host. This is why I comment frequently about not wanting people to post links to their own (frequently 'free' ... and fleeting!) web hosts. I blame myself for not catching those things and copying them to my hard drive and uploading them to the web host ... and replacing the (soon to be broken) links with links that will endure. Actually, I found out that Blaze's site is still up and running: realonebjarni.tripod.com/gruntz/The reason for the broken link is simply a typo... should be "bomb zplanet" instead of "bomb splanet" in the URL. Anyway, I think it would be a good idea to backup the files while they're still here. Interestingly, there are walkthroughs for some levels that are not available on the forum, including a level in the "High Rollerz" tileset... that one doesn't seem very pleasing, though.

We've tested this level with Tomalla and found that it has several different solutions, not mentioned in the walkthrough. However, none of them make the level significantly easier to complete or allow skipping any important sections, so we think it's fine. I like that this level is more thinking-oriented than average - there is only a fuzzy path to follow so you have to stop and think about the order of things to do so you can get closer to the end. If I were to suggest any improvements, I think these would be in regards to the high density of the level - having more space to walk around would be beneficial and also eliminate the need to put puzzle elements at the edges of the map. I added a second statz page image with my Beta-Testing result.

Hello! I'm new. I tried installing Gruntz using the "Gruntz Installer (64-bit Compatible)" and it works fine except when I go to menus, such as the save menu, I can't figure out how to get the mouse to work in it. I can't click anything, despite the menu showing up. I'm using Windows 10 x64 and reinstalled it a couple of times to no avail. Thanks for your help! It sounds like the game needs some configuration changes to work properly on your PC. Try running the dgVoodoo Control Panel program (dgVoodooCpl.exe) from the Gruntz folder and change the "Appearance" setting from "Full Screen" to "Windowed" in the General tab. Then, in the DirectX tab, set the "Videocard" setting to "ATI Radeon 8500".

The issue I have is on the quick-start first ever map/tutorial trying to go anywhere it just doesn't get the grunt to move. It does however register the click when there is an info window open - i.e. it closes the info window with right click too. It just doesn't register the click on the game screen... That's very weird indeed. Perhaps your version of the game is corrupted somehow. We have an installer available in the List of Utilities, Tutorials and Custom Tilesets that installs a working version of the game with dgVoodoo. Virtual Machine is also an option, but this issue could be fixed by setting Gruntz to windowed mode in dgVoodoo settings. Edit: To get dgVoodoo windowed mode to work, the "Videocard" setting may need to be changed in the DirectX tab. I personally use the ATI Radeon 8500 option.

The bridges always looked like crackers to me. But honestly I'm not sure what they are supposed to represent.

Does your left click work though? Can you select Gruntz?

You can do a quicksave with the "F5" key. Here's a list of what the other Function Keyz do in the game.
