Game Play Tip: A grunt with a toy will temporarilly stop what he's doing. Even a running bomb grunt will stop what he's doing if he runs into a toy. In this case, you can re-direct the bomb grunt by attracting him again, causing him to change direction from his original course.
Level Creating Tip: Make sure to have platform, water, and death tiles run off the level, or complete a loop. Using raised tiles or eye candies to fix errors isn't a good practice for a good-looking level. (Remember that completing a loop can be the only function of some tiles.)

Game Play Tip: A shield doesn't do mugh damage as a weapon, but can help your grunt conserve health. (A grunt with a shield takes no damage from short-range attacks like boxing gloves, bare hands, and other shields, and half damage from other tools.) If your shield grunt keeps the other grunt attacking him, then a grunt with a stronger tool can attack without taking damage.
Level Creating Tip: Keeping a theme with your level can help make it look nicer and give other locations to assist with game play. For example, note the repeated shapes in The Rock V. This helps connect the level together through repeated terrain with different purposes. See Water Hazard and A River Runs Through It for examples of a water theme.

Game Play Tip: If there is a switch between two raised tiles (and only accessible by sending a grunt through them), place a grunt in front of the switch and send another grunt to the switch. The grunt will move back and forth in a V shape going from under one raised tile to under another. (Look at Salta! Salta! Salta! for an example.)
Level Creating Tip: All solid tiles serve the same purpose, so both corner and diagonal platform edge tiles work similarly. Usually, use the diagonal edge for diagonal lines of platform edge and the corner for an intersection between two straight edges. These may be switched in certain places if it appears the other works well too.

Game Play Tip: "Solid" tiles are different from "raised" tiles. "Solid" refers to the level-up and level-down tiles, and the "eye-candy solid" It is possible to walk diagonally from under it to its left or right in one move. "Raised" tiles refers to raised pyramids, bricks, and tile 302 (the gray pyramid with holes in it) It isn't possible to move diagonally from under it to its left or right in one move. (Instead you have to move left/right and then up.)
Level Creating Tip: Solid tiles look nicer in the level if it's possible to use them, except for in a "tile-based" area (like a pyramid maze or a group of bricks.)

Previous tips:
Game Play Tip: If enemy gruntz are not on the same "team", they might end up fighting each other; if two gruntz need to be defeated, check to see if they are on the same team. Level Creating Tip: If you are anticipating needing lots of gruntz for one section and don't want them to kill each other, make extra isolated gruntz of the next team type so that the gruntz in that section are of the same type and only fight your gruntz.

This explains all about the Tips and Tricks in the News. The idea of this is to provide (usually) short bits of information about playing the game and about designing levels. For now, this will only contain information from that spot. Go here to post tips on the Gruntz Level Editor (as well as in the specific thread if possible) If you want to donate a tip for the news screen, just send a message to me using the forum (on the top right next to the GRUNTZ lettering) and I will look it over Also, if anyone remembers my previous tips to post, just tell me and I put them in too.

I didn't make changes to the content in that revision -- I just rearranged everything on the page. However, I don't think all the rules should be given in What is Gruntz -- just some of the more major rules.
Do you mind if I replace the text on the front page with the editted text?

OverviewGruntz is a "puzzle-powered brain game", in which you have to find a special object (called a "Warpstone") and bring it to the King. (Note: Because the game is named " Gruntz", not "Grunts", pluralz here always end in z. It's just the way the game workz.) GruntzThe Gruntz the solver can control are orange (surprise!). There are obstaclez in their way to the king; Rockz (can be broken) ; Holez (can be filled) and Moundz (can be dug up) ; poolz of Water ( Gruntz can't swim) , deadly areaz (like Tar Pitz, Quicksand, Hot Griddlez, etc.); hazardous flying Objectz that drop thingz (on you!); Ground hazardz (such as Lava Geyserz); and enemy Gruntz (other colorz besidez orange) which fight your gruntz and sometimez each other. ArrowzWhenever a Grunt stepz onto an Arrow it must follow that arrow often to another Arrow . Some Arrowz are bi-directional and switch directionz each time their Yellow Switch gooroosgruntz.info/editor/Tilez/8GS/GS221.jpg[/img] is pressed. . (These are referred to as Two Way Arrowz, or TWA) Switchez and PyramidzA Switch with a curved arrow on it (called a Toggle Switch or TS) will switch until the grunt standz on it again. A Switch with a down arrow on it (called a Hold Switch or HS) will stay activated only as long as a Grunt is standing on it. Blue Switchez cause Bridgez to raise or lower; Green switchez control specific green pyramidz. Red switchez control all red pyramidz. BlackSwitchez can't be deactivated and raise/lower black pyramidz. Gruntz may walk across lowered pyramidz, but not raised pyramidz. If a pyramid getz raised while a grunt is on it, he will get squished and die. Toolz and Goo PuddlezGruntz may start out with a Tool. They also may pick one up lying around on the ground, use a Megaphone to call for one, or find one within a rock or a mound. Gauntletz break rockz and some brickz; Shovelz dig holez and moundz; A grunt using Bombz blows up all nearby rockz, brickz, and himself. Other toolz serve as weaponz to fight enemy Gruntz. To make new Gruntz, one getz the material to bake a new Grunt by sucking up "Goo", using a Straw ... called a "GooberStraw" in the game. It takez four Goo Puddlez to make a Grunt. It can be dropped at a Grunt Creation Pad so that a new Grunt can enter the game. When a Grunt diez by losing all health, it usually leavez behind a puddle of Goo. Thus, keeping your Gruntz healthy is important. To keep them healthy, Gruntz just love Zap Cola! Gruntz They can drink it from canz (25% of max health recovered), bottlez (50% max health recovered) and kegz (100% of health recovered) to heal up. Questz/BattlezToday, playerz tend to focus on Questz; Custom Levelz now outnumber the Standard Levelz built into the game by almost eight to one! Another part of the game "Battlez" can be played against 3 other people, but Battlez are usually played alone (if at all) against three computer-generated 'opponentz'. Most Battlez Levelz include little help for the AI, resulting in battlez which are not challenging. It's probably a result of inexperience with battlez level editorz. Adding more gruntz for the opponentz makez it a little harder but isn't a great fix. Note that in Battlez, the color of the grunt identifies the team, rather than ownership or attitude. Getting GruntzThe game is out of print now, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to find the CD version. A downloadable version is available from RealArcade ... the best I can do to give you a lead ... I have the CD. The price of the CD has been reported to be as low as $14 (when found) and about $19.95 is the high end price. I do not know what the RealArcade price may be. There are attemptz being made to negotiate rightz (of various levelz) to Gruntz, so that it may be possible to legally buy Gruntz CDz through this Forum. For now, that is purely a pipe dream ... but who knows, dreamz sometimez come true! The thing to realize about Gruntz is it's just the right mix of humor, puzzles, and graphics. It has funny quotes mixed in with puzzles, and scenery that's cool too. Although Gruntz was released a long time ago, it is still fun to play and the custom levels created help keep it alive.

Oh I have so played Pro Pinball Big Race USA -- It's worth your time playing it but probably not worth paying for it alone. I got a couple of pinball games in a package deal which made it affordable.
I also thought the graphics on the box were very attractive.

If you ask GooRoo to become a designer, you can view the Gruntz Editor board with a LOT of content about the editor...
Also if you have any questions, just ask us.

I wish Battlez were possible to play online; I tried it once and it was too slow imho. I like designing custom levels better anyways. We still post updates on battlez though, so don't hesitate to make them.

Hi! Those links look interesting. Thanks for dropping by. Also thanks for writing in English. It's unfortunately one of the rules of the forum But it looks like that won't be a problem.

That would work, but if these recent levels are completly your work, you might want to switch to something else to show that.

We also recommend that you send it to someone like GooRoo so he can test it out. I think it is great to have another designer, make sure to ask for Designer Status to look at the Gruntz Editor.
Also don't worry about the Notes: part if you don't understand the ranking, someone who plays the level can fill it in.

I didn't have any problems after XP was used; I know things change with the editor though.

I personally feel this is better than the other board, so I wonder why you dislike moving here.

Even elementary knowledge like the speedz you gave us would be useful. They sure made it easier for us editors using the speez for the timing puzzles. I am happy you came here! I hope you have enough time to check in from time to time. Also, as the graphics warden, is there any hope for us incorporating 32 by 32 graphics into making additional level sets? I love the ones that are there already, but *cough cough* claw has 14 level sets *cough cough* and the more the merrier right?
