I am so excited to share this with y'all. I have the Premium Windows 7 64 bit as my main computer. I was starting to follow the instructions from Alexander at the very beginning of this thread, but I did not know how to create a file like he said. Grrr. Anyhow, When I clicked on the Gruntz game to open it, the error screen came up and said my MSS32.dll file was missing. Well, I knew it was on there, so I tried something. I double clicked on that particular file, and it asked me what program I wanted to use to open it. I browsed in my computer files and selected the Gruntz.exe file. Now that file is set to be open specifically by the Gruntz platform and IT WORKS!!! Full screen, no lag. How about that??
We will see as the day goes on if it continues to work. I will also uninstall that patch stuff from the other comp (Windows 10) and reinstall using this very solution and see if it helps on that OS.
Happy Gruntzing y'all!

Is anybody capable of playing Gruntz with higher FPS on Windows 10? It is really laggy on my PC, where it was working without a problem with Windows 7

Planned obsolescence is their plan in life, and the computer community suffers for it. The only hope is that the people with the skills to do so keep coming up with programs to make these older programs work, despite what the OS does to make them unusable.

D3D Windower partially fixed the lag for me. It was still kinda iffy but much better than without the program, and very much playable.

I've tried this and I get an error when I try to launch the game that says "Unable to load the resourcefile. (1086)" The puzzle you were trying to load? One problem that frequently shows up is that sort of message, with the dialog asking something like "Would You like to...". Answering that dialog with the path to YOUR GRUNTSZ.REZ file, and also to the Gruntz.exe file may solve your dilemma.

I've tried this and I get an error when I try to launch the game that says "Unable to load the resourcefile. (1086)" Did the batch file do everything correctly? You should have: - Borderless Gaming running
- WinCDEmu installed
- A virtual CD drive with the minimal "Gruntz" disk image running in it
- MultiRes running
- A screen resolution of 1024x768
- The D3DWindower window open with an entry for "Gruntz", "Gruntz (v1.0)", "Gruntz (Demo)", and "Gruntz (Polish)"
- The "Run program" button in that window (with an icon of a computer) shouldn't be greyed out
Is any of this incorrect?

Is any of this incorrect? Idk what MultiRes is but my second monitor switches to 1024x768 and everything else loads. Borderless Gaming is running, the virtual CD drive with minimal "Gruntz" is running, D3DWindower is up with Gruntz, Gruntz (v1.0), Gruntz(Demo), and Gruntz(Polish) and Run Program button is not greyed out. Also if I run it through D3DWindower I immediately get a "Unable to initialize the game. (1123) error and it immediatly closes.

Could you try disabling one of the monitors and trying again?

Could you try disabling one of the monitors and trying again? Alright. Okay I tried that and it still gave me the "Unable to initialize the game. (1123)" error

Have two windows open, one to the disc, and the other to your created folder, and compare the contents.

I've applied Friedslick6's compatibility patch and the game crashes when I load any level. Any fixes for this?
